"Franklin did a great job! He was very mindful with our modest budget and planned a beautiful retaining wall and walkway for our sloped yard for a very reasonable price. He communicated well and completed the work in the timeframe he specified. He is one of the kindest and most reliable contractors I’ve ever met."

"Bryan did an outstanding job installing our concrete steps out of our bottom patio pad under our deck of our newly built home! The quality of his work is excellent, and everything turned out exactly how we hoped. He pays attention to the details and takes a lot of pride in what he does. On top of that, his pricing was very fair and competitive. We got several quotes, and Bryan was one of the best-priced contractors without sacrificing quality. He's also one of the hardest-working contractors I've ever met. He never stops working, stays focused on the job, and puts in a full day's work from start to finish. He's friendly, easy to talk to, and always willing to answer questions or explain the process. If you're looking for someone who is honest, dependable, hardworking, and does quality concrete work at a great price, I highly recommend Bryan. I wouldn't hesitate to hire him again and will definitely be recommending him to friends and family."

"The guys did a great job both times of the year. As an elderly person it was great to be able to trust that my yard would be taken care of. In the fall they trimmed down my ornamental grasses and shrubs in anticipation for winter. They also disposed of the grasses, etc which was included in the quote provided. I will definitely use their services again!"

"Earthworks was phenomenal to work with. Their attention to detail and professionalism is unmatched. They completed a large project for our new home including sprinkler systems, grading of the lot, extensive concrete work, planted over 175 trees, shrubs, perennials, areas of dryscape and more. We couldn't be more pleased ?"

"Are they a good company?  Yes.  Are they excellent?  No.

First, I had them reinstall and repair a sprinkler line.  The one they did works fine, however, they didn't notice that 1) part of the line went under the sidewalk to the park strip.  So I thought that line would be functioning as one, it does not, and the grass in the parking strip died over the summer due to the lack of water. It's not worth it to have them come back and reattach it, and even if I wanted to, I know they don't want to do it and I'd be their last priority.  2) They didn't make sure the sprinklers worked after they fixed the line.  When it didn't, I knew that it would just be easier to call a sprinkler company to come look at it instead of making the complaint to Aposhian and getting wait listed.  When I did call another sprinkler company, the new company found the easy fix (a wiring issue) and repaired it that day.  Had Aposhian made sure the line worked before they left, I'm sure we would have noticed it at the time and not later.  It just wasn't worth it to call them back and ask them to look at it.

Second, I had them create a rock retaining wall for a basement stairway.  They did an excellent job with the rock retaining wall.  The clean up was not great, and when one of the beds they were supposed to fix was not finished, I did have to ask them to come back and finish it.  I think there was some miscommunication between management and crew over what was expected.  It took at least a week to get them to come back.  One of the trees planted was dead, it took them a month to come back and replace it.

Overall, the work was alright.  The experience was not great.  It could have been a lot worse, although I feel like they probably think I'm just too picky a customer and sort of an annoyance.  I would not use them again although I wouldn't say don't use them under any circumstances.  They clearly are a good company, just not a GREAT one."

Retaining Wall Installers questions, answered by experts

Railroad ties can be good for retaining walls, but it depends on the area. They have a desirable rustic look and are durable. The problem is they’re treated with creosote, a preservative the EPA says poses a risk to humans and wildlife. Over time, the preservative seeps out of the wood and into the ground. Many areas have banned the use of creosote-treated wood on residential properties. If your area does allow it, never use railroad ties near an edible garden or drinking water source. Instead, use wood that’s treated with an EPA-approved preservative or a wood-alternative composite material.

Yes, including patterns, finishes, and plant integration for aesthetic enhancement.

The longevity of flood walls depends on how they were constructed, but most wood, gravel, and cement flood walls last 10 years. While aluminum flood walls may cost far more initially, they can be a good investment as they can last decades and will not be damaged by exposure to the elements.

Failure to compact the soil during construction is the most common cause of leaning retaining walls. In addition, poor drainage can lead to excessive water pressure behind a retaining wall, pushing against it until it begins to move forward away from the soil it is holding back.

Most retaining wall installations can be finished in one to three weeks, but the timeline varies based on factors like wall size and material. The local climate and major weather events, such as storms or flooding, can also extend the project's timeline, as can any holds ups in the permitting process.
