You can cut food on tough, scratch-resistant granite countertops. Any surface, including a waterfall countertop, can last decades based on a few things. First is the chosen material. You most likely purchased a quartz countertop because it won't stain or etch like marble. Remember, while quartz is more resistant than natural stone, just like Superman when faced with Kryptonite, it is not indestructible.

While no countertop material is truly “heatproof,” granite countertops are extremely resistant to high temperatures. Some types of granite can withstand temperatures up to 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit. However, we don’t recommend placing hot pots and pans directly on granite countertops. Even if it doesn’t scar the granite, it may damage the sealant.
