Marble is high maintenance, like most other types of natural stone flooring. However, because it is naturally a more porous stone, there are a few added care instructions. You will need to clean it often to prevent dirt and grit from scratching the finish and surface, keep it dry, clean up spills immediately, and have it professionally sealed and refinished at least once a year to maintain the shine and water-tight surface. However, investing in maintenance is a smart move because marble floors are among the most beautiful and valuable types of flooring when properly cared for.

Engineered quartz is an artificial, nonporous material made from a mix of mined ground quartz, polymer resins, and pigments, making it a lower-maintenance option. In contrast, quartzite is a natural stone composed of sandstone, which makes it highly resistant to heat but often requires sealing and more careful upkeep. You should clean both types of stone with non-abrasive cleaners that have a low or neutral pH, avoiding acidic cleaners like vinegar, as well as wire brushes and scouring pads.

Marble is a porous natural stone that needs sealant to minimize staining. Leaving this type of countertop material sealant-free means any liquids left on the surface will quickly absorb into the stone, discoloring it and dulling the sheen. Dark or acidic liquids, like red wine, coffee, and lemon, are the worst culprits. 

There are a few ways to remove calcium buildup in your pipes, but the most natural option involves vinegar, baking soda, and boiling water. To use this method, pour 1/2 cup of vinegar down the drain you're trying to clear, then follow it up with 1/2 cup of baking soda. Place a rag over the drain to create a light seal and leave it for 30 minutes. Remove the rag, then pour a pot of boiling water into the drain. After the water drains, wipe everything down with a sponge.

White quartz is a very low-maintenance countertop material. It’s nonporous, so it won’t stain, even if you spill dark liquids on it. The light color will make dirt show up much easier, but a simple wipe-down will keep the countertops looking fresh and bright for years to come.
