"This was a life-saver. I was afraid no one could repair the damage to my very expensive carpeting. But Sean and his co-worker fixed every issue and even replaced the carpet tacks that weren't at the right level from the first installation. Most people realize it is time to replace the padding when the carpet loses springiness or feels thin and unsupportive. Other telltale signs are lumps or dips in the carpet that could look unattractive or cause tripping hazards. Similarly, if your carpet is making a crinkly sound or starting to wear out prematurely, you might need to replace your padding.

Carpet stretching can be a worthwhile investment to increase the lifespan of your carpet and eliminate unsightly wrinkles, ridges, and ripples. For an older carpet that is in relatively good condition aside from some wrinkling or bubbling, restretching can make it look like new and extend its life by at least a couple of years. You should consider restretching when you notice looseness or other related issues.

However, it's important to note that stretching will not fix issues like stains, wear in the pile, or discoloration. Consider replacing the carpet instead if the repair cost is more than 50% of the price of a new one. Additionally, if your carpet is past its expected lifespan of five to 15 years, or if it has been stretched multiple times already, replacement is likely a better option.

You can get away with stretching the carpet with some remaining items of furniture, so long as you have ready access to the parts of the carpet that require maintenance and you are not stretching through the furniture, as this leads to tears and fraying. Try to remove at least 50% of the furniture if you can’t remove it all.

Use baking soda and vinegar or shaving cream to fix your carpet stains. But if you prefer a quicker solution, rent a carpet shampooer and use an enzyme-based cleaner to treat and resolve your discolored carpet issue.

While it may not always be ideal, you can fix a squeaky floorboard without removing the carpet. Pros use specialized carpet screws and drive them through the carpet into the subfloor, securing floorboards. They may also use nails instead of screws if they suspect the pile will get caught in the screw. While some types of carpet will hide the screws and nails, a low-pile carpet may not.
