"Caleb arrived on time to give us a bid. He clearly explained the difference between cellulose and glass fiber insulation - giving the pros and cons on both. Insulation was seamless. Shay completed the majority of the paperwork for the rebate. She contacted us and gave directions on where to sign and how to send in the rebate. I wish all home improvements were this easy."

"I found USA Insulation of Utah at the Home Show in January. Cameron was answering questions at their booth, and took my name and phone number for Nate the co-owner to call me . Nate was at my house a few days later to appraise the work I needed done. His crew Gio, Juan and a few others were there a few days later to get the job done very promptly and efficiently. I'm very pleased with the work they did, plus Nate was very helpful instructing me on what his crew would be doing. They insulated with closed cell spray foam and batten insulation under my 2 crawl spaces. I highly recommend USA of Utah and LNL insulation."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

A garage ceiling needs a vapor barrier if it’s a heated garage or if you’re installing insulation in the ceiling. Without a vapor barrier, you risk moisture issues and mold growth. If you have an unheated garage and don’t plan on installing insulation that could get wet and harbor mold, the ceiling doesn't need a vapor barrier.

It is possible to insulate your walls without removing drywall, but it’s not a good idea to attempt the work yourself. A professional can use blown-in insulation or spray foam insulation to fill wall voids without opening up the walls, and the option they use typically depends on your climate and whether or not there’s insulation in your wall already that can remain in place. Spray foam insulation costs more and isn’t always a viable option, but it’s a better insulator. Call in an expert to help decide which is right for you.

Durable materials suited for climate include aluminum for coastal areas or composite wood in varying environments for durability and minimal upkeep.

It's essential to use insulation materials specifically designed for air ducts. Common types of duct insulation materials include fiberglass, foam board, and reflective foil. These insulation materials have the right properties to withstand the temperature and airflow conditions within the ductwork. Using the appropriate insulation not only ensures efficient temperature control but also prevents potential safety hazards or the release of harmful particles into the air.

Spreading tin foil over your windows works similarly to radiant barrier insulation, but not as well. It will reflect some of the sunlight that would otherwise come through the glass and warm up the inside of your home, so it might help a little to keep your home cool in the summer. However, the appearance isn’t preferable to blinds or drapes that can offer the same benefits. You might also consider tinting your windows instead, which is a more aesthetically pleasing change that can still block a good portion of the solar heat coming through your windows.
