"These guys did such a great job! Very professional to work with and I would definitely recommend them to anyone! I needed my salon ready to go and open before a certain date and they made it possible! They retouched all of the walls with fireproof paint, added a nice big bathroom for my customers, put in a whole entrance to the front of my building, all wood and stained so beautifully it stands out to our customers I absolutely love it! These guys also built a wooden bar for the inside of the salon looks so nice I always get compliments on it! I would definitely hire this company again thank you HammerDrill Construction LLC!"

"Chris was always prompt as well as his crew. He was helpful to me for choosing the best way to correct an existing problem. The roof looks great and the price was affordable. The existing problem that I had with a room extension was corrected affordably and it looks great. I am very satisfied with the work."

Siding questions, answered by experts

Little maintenance is required beyond periodic washing with a garden hose to remove dirt. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or pressure washers that might damage the siding.

Some homeowners use caulk on the edges of clapboard siding to help seal it. However, this method invites new problems. With so many gaps sealed, clapboard siding is often unable to drain properly and moisture from rain or other sources can build up inside. This can lead to rot and other issues over time. When repairing clapboards, it’s best to avoid caulking the final product. The exception is trim around windows and doors, which should be caulked to avoid moisture problems.

Contrary to popular belief, people still do use aluminum siding for their homes—but it’s much less popular than it was in the mid-1900s. The introduction of various types of vinyl siding as an affordable option reduced the demand for aluminum, which is prone to scratching and denting and needs to be repainted every five to 10 years. Given the abundance of house siding options, especially newer and more popular types like stone veneer siding, aluminum siding has simply just fallen out of favor.

Many people remove aluminum siding to get to the wood underneath, allowing them to paint, stain, or finish the wood to give the home a brand-new aesthetic. With that in mind, you find plywood and related types of wood underneath aluminum siding, but you also run into fiber cement board, strand board, and a diverse array of other building materials. It depends on the original design of the house.

A self-etching primer is the best option for aluminum siding. These are specifically designed to bond with bare metals, among other surfaces, leading to better adhesion and corrosion resistance. An oil-based primer is a good alternative if you can’t find a self-etching primer.
