"I had not educated myself about what was available to replace my worn plastic bubble skylights until recently, but the worry about them breaking during hailstorms was always a concern in the back of my mind. The seal was not tight on my existing skylights and energy efficiency had to be bad. After I researched Velux hail-proof glass and saw Freelite deals with their products, I contacted them via the request a quote on Angie's. I described that I was interested Velux white laminated glass - [*** Link removed ***] (opposed to clear glass or an added blind). Marie was back with me quickly with a fair estimate, and Nathan came a few days later to measure for a formal proposal to be written. My sizes were standard and I'm sure that helped, but received nothing but professional service from Marie and Nathan, and the installation looks great. The new glass keeps out a ton of noise as well. If only finding a good window company was this simple. Happy customer!"
"They were able to replace the skylight in less than 2 weeks after the quote. They did a good job and make the finish on the inside look good. A few weeks later, there was a heavy rain and my new skylight is no longer leaking like my old one that was replaced."

"Venessa and her team were prompt and professional. They stayed within budget and in the time constraints. My family was visiting from Florida and we had to have the project finished at a certain time. Venessa showed up to check on the job everyday. She also assisted with the colors of the interior and exterior of my house. Miguel and his sons were the installers. I could tell how professional they are and they replaced my windows in 1 day."
"They did a very good job. My chimney looks the best in the neighborhood. They came out ready to work. The trip fee is minimal for the work they do. They will work with you to do anything on your list. I would recommend them."
"They did a bunch of work for me. I got them through Angie's List and they did a hell of a job. They have done about three or four jobs for me. They fixed my roof and fixed it again. They did the siding because we had a raccoon coming in that destroyed the siding. They completed the side of it and the paint matched. Everything was fantastic. They are probably the best ones."
"Our home is an older home and needed a lot of items repaired/ replaced. We are new homeowners and aren't the most knowledgeable on roofing necessities. Dean, the inspector/ owner came out to look over our roof and showed us the items that needed to be repaired. Dean takes pride in his work and is very knowledgeable/friendly which made us feel comfortable. Since this is a smaller company we definitely received the attention and detailed services. The inspector called us immediately when our custom made chimney cap was available to install and scheduled an appointment to come the same day. They were very responsive, informative, and punctual. They completed everything in one day and walked me around to show me all items that were replaced. The custom fabricated and installed chimney cap is very nice and exactly what was expected/ ordered. In total we had replaced one plumbing pipe flashing, four damaged shingles. They also described what was done such as resealing all Plumbing Pipe Flashings, one skylight dome, resurfaced and painted two heater vents, and filled in wood fascia with expansion foam and coated with waterproofing paint. Everything looks great and they provide a one year warranty. The price was fair and I would call again / recommend them to friends and family for their services. We will be using them for our next project to replace all our gutters.
Local window and door specialists, glaziers, and roofers should all install skylights. You can also do an internet search to find companies that specialize in skylight installation near you. Keep in mind that skylight installation is very complex and can be dangerous without the proper tools and safety precautions, so we don’t recommend this as a DIY project.
In most cases, installing skylights will add value to your home, making them a worthwhile investment for many homeowners. Buyers are often attracted to the aesthetic appeal of skylights, as they make rooms feel brighter, airier, and more spacious by introducing natural light without compromising privacy. Beyond aesthetics, skylights can offer monetary benefits by potentially reducing energy bills. Additionally, models that can be opened provide extra ventilation, which is particularly useful in hotter climates for allowing accumulated hot air to escape from the ceiling. However, the return on investment depends on several factors. To maximize value, it's crucial that the skylights are installed by an experienced professional to avoid risks like water damage, which can deter savvy buyers. Regular maintenance and cleaning are also important. Furthermore, choosing the right frame and glazing materials for your specific climate will enhance their performance and appeal. While skylights are generally seen as an asset, homeowners should also consider the initial cost, which averages around $1,500 for installation.
Yes, you can replace a skylight without changing the entire roof—if the roof is in good shape. First, you need to make sure the roof around the skylight is intact and free of damage. Quality installation is crucial to prevent leaks, including replacing the flashing, which seals the skylight to the roof. While replacing the skylight alone is doable, it can make sense to replace both at once to streamline the work, coordinate the warranties, and reduce the risk of future leaks. If you’re unsure, reach out to a professional for help in deciding the best approach.
Yes, solar tubes work during the winter as long as it’s light outside and they aren’t covered by snow. Sun tunnels are made to work year-round to bring in natural light, and some people find them even more beneficial during the winter. With less daylight outside, it can be even more important to bring brightness into homes to reduce electricity costs.
There are four main types of lighting used in homes: ambient, task, accent, and decorative. Within these categories, there are a number of fixtures to choose from including ceiling-mounted lights, floor lamps, under-cabinet lights, track lighting, and more.
Choosing the fixture that’s right for you depends on your home design and the area you’re looking to illuminate.
