"Handyman Carpentry came through for me and my family! Our door was kicked in and I needed to feel safe immediately. Mr. Kevin came through with a fast response, and great work. He kept in contact throughout the entire time! Reasonable and fair pricing. This was an emergency for me and Mr. Kevin and his squad came through. We will definitely be calling on him again for more carpentry and home improvement jobs! Thank you and I pray nothing but growth and success for you and your business!!"

"Found Sentri on Angi. Jeanette and Violet were very pleasant and efficient in getting a contractor to me in the time frame needed. The contractor was excellent and the roof looks great! I would definitely work with them again if I had additional projects."

"As the owner of a “new” 100+ year old home, I have a lot of projects to do, which means that I’m constantly reaching out to contractors. It also means that I am concerned about quality of work, because I’m trying to resurrect and preserve a house that hasn’t been taken the best care of by the people that came before me. Delgado Wood Floors was a godsend! While it seems like most of the contractors in this town don’t even want to show up to make a bid, let alone actually do the work, Gerald and his team were the opposite. Prompt and very communicative, they delivered everything they said they would, at a reasonable price, faster than I expected, and I’m very happy with the work. Now if they also did drywall, painting, plumbing, electrical and landscaping, I’d be set!"

Small jobs welcome

"We highly recommend Haralson Construction Company! Mathew does amazing work. We had an extremely large, custom deck built and we are beyond happy with it! He finished the project exactly when he said he would which was also very important to us. Mathew really went above and beyond to please us, something that is hard to find now a days! We will use him for any and all future projects."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

When building a house, it is customary to use 16d nails that measure 3 1/2 inches in length to construct the frame. These nails are crucial in providing the necessary support and stability for structural elements like joists and studs, which ensures a sturdy framework.

House framing can be expensive because the materials are pricey, and the job requires a high level of expertise. The more complex the plans, the more expensive the job, but even the most basic frame needs to be installed with high-quality materials and precision. When pricing your home’s framework, remember that a sturdy frame is necessary to create a safe structure.

Most of the time, you’ll want to use screws on your subfloor rather than nails. Nails can actually weaken plywood, whereas screws can easily penetrate without damage. They also form a more secure connection because of their shape, preventing squeaky floors and tightly holding the subfloor in place. That said, some contractors do prefer nails depending on the type of floor covering because they allow for more flexibility.

An A-frame home can be cheaper to build than a traditional house, but that is not always a given. Prices can be fairly similar in some cases, depending on the location, design, and necessary site preparation. Costs for an A-frame typically run between $100 to $200 per square foot, which is comparable to the cost of a traditional home. The cost of an A-frame can come in under those numbers if you opt for a prefabricated kit.

Modern brick houses are really stick-built homes with a brick facade for aesthetic purposes only, so most have framing. With genuine brick construction, most homeowners install furring strips over the interior of the brick and then install drywall over those strips to cover the brick wall, so they don’t have traditional framing.
