"The remodel project took about 2 weeks to complete. Part of this time included ReBath coordinating with a flooring company we hired to replace the tile floor in the bathroom and to run the same tile into the master bedroom. ReBath does an excellent job on tiling floors too, but we wanted tile from another company. The cost of the tile flooring for the bathroom and bedroom was an additional $4000 above the cost of the bathroom remodel. The total cost of our project was $22,000. During the 2 weeks we had plenty of opportunity to observe how the work was being done. These are our comments regarding our full experience with ReBath: 1. Working with the ReBath design consultant to plan our remodel was an excellent experience [Bryan Letts]. We were able to pick out all the materials we wanted to use as well as having total input to the design of the remodeled bathroom. 2. The same 2-3 man work crew came every day and did the complete job from start to finish during this 2 weeks period. This crew was led by Ismael, who is a plumber, carpenter, and tiler. It was nice not having different people coming each day as our remodel progressed. 3. The work crew did an excellent job of cleaning up before leaving each day. 4. I have never dealt with a more courteous and professional company than all the ReBath people we interfaced with . 5. Every part of this job was done right as Ismael and crew take the time to do it right the 1st time. 6. The entire ReBath staff was very accommodating with our all of our requests during this entire project. 7. The ReBath staff was even responsive to phone calls/messages after the job started. 8. The only area we could see for a little improvement was on one occasion I was trying to get pricing and a part number on an extra accessory that was not part of the original job scope. This request was not responded to in a timely manner, but eventually the accessory was provided and installed at no cost! OVERALL.....BEST JOB EVER! WE ARE COMPLETELY SATISFIED! "
No, tiling over painted walls or wallpapered surfaces is generally not recommended. Textured surfaces and paints will affect the adhesive, possibly causing tiles to lift or fall off. Painted walls with a semi-gloss or high-gloss finish are particularly difficult for adding tiles. It’s wise to strip the paint first if you install the tiles to drywall, although it’s still best to opt for a cement backer board.
Ceramic tile adheres best with premixed adhesive or mortar. If you’re installing the tile in an area with moisture, such as a bathroom or kitchen, opt for waterproof adhesive, and if you choose mortar, make sure it’s thick because that is the easiest to work with and ensures the tiles will sit flat.
When cleaning porcelain tiles, avoid products that contain ammonia, bleach, and other harsh chemicals. Acid-based cleansers can damage the tile, though you can clean them with a diluted mixture of one-quarter cup white vinegar mixed with one gallon of hot water. It is important always to use a soft-bristled brush or sponge, since hard bristles and steel wool can scratch the tile.
Porcelain tiles can last 60 years or longer. With high-quality tiles and proper installation, your porcelain tiles may even outlive you, making them well worth the initial investment.
To help your porcelain tiles last longer, you should clean and maintain them regularly. You don’t need any harsh chemicals to get the job done. Rather, use a cloth, hot water, and mild detergent. And don’t forget to learn how to clean floor tile grout, as that’s just as important as tile maintenance.
Glazed ceramic tiles don’t need to be sealed because the glazing already offers some protection against moisture. Unglazed ceramic tiles need to be sealed to keep the porous tile safe from moisture and staining. However, both types of tile can benefit from sealing. Sealant can make the tiles easier to keep clean and offer more resistance to water, spills, and stains.
