"When Gary first came out to look at our deck, he was very knowledgeable, which really impressed my husband and I. Our deck was a complete lost, but they came out rebuilt our deck and did it very quickly and it looks Wonderful. We are very pleased with their work. Gary goes over and beyond his job to make sure that the customer is satisfied, and we are!!! If you need your deck repaired, you wont be disappointed, please give them a call."

"Not only were William and his staff professional and friendly, they showed up on time, and when they found out it was a bigger job than expected he told me step by step what he was needing do. Since it was a bigger project than expected, he let me know about the prices and asked me if it was still ok because I'm on a budget. I definitely recommend William and his team for any handyman services. Will be calling them again when I'm ready to build my deck also!"

"Jay Nobles and an associate refinished a bathtub and a shower for me on 05 Aug 19. Most of the work was completed the first day with virtually no impact on other parts of the house. Jay and his partner returned the following day to complete the job (the finish had to dry overnight). I found a sag in the epoxy finish applied to the shower and mentioned it to them when they returned to complete the job and they quickly repaired it and recoated that area without issue. Both individuals were extremely professional and courteous as well as conscientious about limiting dust and odors associated with the job. The price charged was very reasonable and I highly recommend SPR Bathtub Refinishing."

Deck Repair questions, answered by experts

Yes, using sustainable materials and recycled composites offer green solutions.

The best base materials for a ground-level or floating deck are typically gravel and crushed stone (also known as landscaping rocks). These options are inexpensive, provide excellent drainage, prevent weeds, and help minimize moisture buildup, which reduces shifting and rotting. For added stability and to evenly distribute the weight, you can use concrete deck blocks or pavers. While more expensive, concrete blocks and pavers offer a sturdier base than gravel or crushed stone alone.

When building a deck, #2 grade lumber is a go-to for several reasons. It’s strong, budget-friendly, and works well for most framing and decking needs. But upgrading to #1 or Appearance Grade can give your deck that extra visual edge if you're after a cleaner, more polished look for high-visibility spots.

Yes, adding a composite deck, such as one made from Trex, can significantly increase your home's value. It is a valuable home renovation for recouping costs, with some estimates for return on investment (ROI) ranging between 60% and 70%. More recently, Remodeling's 2024 Cost vs. Value Report suggests a deck addition has an ROI of 82.9%, with an average resale value of nearly $14,600. A new deck makes your yard more functional, enhances the landscape's aesthetic, and can entice prospective buyers. The investment may have a higher return if the deck adds usable square footage to the property.

When deciding if you should use 2x6 or 2x8 deck joists, consider the size of the deck, joist spacing, and materials. Larger decks, larger-spaced joists, and weaker wood all require more support, meaning they need larger joists. For example, 2x8 redwood joists spaced 16 inches apart can only safely span up to 10 feet and 7 inches. On the other hand, 2x10 southern pine joists spaced 12 inches apart can be as big as 16 feet and 2 inches. If you aren’t sure what size joist is best for your project, speak with your deck builder.
