"We signed a contract on 3 May 2025 for concrete extension of the driveway, the back patio; construction of a screened in porch and building an arbor over the back patio extension. The sales person was so good that we did not get any additional estimates (our mistake). He promised us excellent communication, excellent work, 5-year warranty. At the time the contract was signed the owner was out of the state as was the construction manager. Doug and Craig were always nice when they did communicate. The first part of the construction contract was for the driveway and back patio concrete extension. The person that did the concrete work ended up cutting our main water line and also destroying 2/3rds of the lines for our sprinkler system. He repaired the main water line. I watched the repair job and was very concerned as one end of the repair only overlapped about 1/8th inch with the main water line. I am concerned that over time it will not hold. In addition, the concrete contractor pulled the junction box for the main water line for the city out of the ground and when the concrete was poured the concrete hardened inside and under the box. We had to pay a sprinkler company $2900 for 2 days of work to replace the broken sprinkler lines, replace the sprinkler heads which the concrete contractor threw away and chisel the concrete out of the water main junction box and rebury it. In addition, the concrete contractor caused damage to our privacy fence gate entry with his Bobcat and tore up large parts of our yard. Timeless Sunsets did a partial repair job on the privacy fence and partially filled in the foot deep tire ruts with dirt. I had to purchase 10 bags of top soil, 8 bags of sand and grass seed to repair the damage to the yard. The sales person had also mismeasured the amount of concrete needed and charged us an additional $600 above what was in the signed contract. As far as the excellent communication I have seen the construction manager twice and the sales manager 3 times over a month and 10 days since the contract was signed. I was told our $24,000 job was a small job and they had to spend their time on their big jobs. Communication has been mainly by text msg which I have to initiate. The construction manager asked us not to include the sales person in any communications which I did not do as the sales person was the one who wrote the contracts and told us which services would be included. I have received 1 text msg which I did not initiate. The construction manager never contacted us, or visited the entire time the concrete construction was being completed and no one offered to pay for any of the damage to the sprinkler system or have the main waterline professionally repaired. The screened in porch and the arbor were completed rapidly, in a few days. The door initially was not hung properly on the screened in porch and would not open all the way. The contractor had to return to rehang the door which left about a 3/4-inch space under the door which would allow insects to enter. I asked aren't you going to add a threshold? He said I am tired of driving back and forth if you want a threshold you will have to go and buy one right now and he would install. I drove round trip about 40 minutes of driving time to Home Depot and purchased a threshold with the help of an associate. When I returned the contractor said it won't work and made one out of a 2 x 4. We have had some rain and the B board on the inside of the screened in porch is already warping. The construction manager and sales person came out and for the first time I was told that I would have to buy the stain and paint because that is their policy. This was 1 month after the contract was signed and I was told they would pay for the stain and paint and the sales person also wrote on the contract "Stain is included for the arbor" and "Paint for the exterior only" which referenced the screen in porch and I would paint the inside. They said the reason they don't buy the stain and paint is it causes too many problems if it doesn't match. I responded what if I buy the stain and paint and you reduce the amount remaining on the contract for that cost and they said no. The owner refused to uphold what was written in the contract and at that point we said we would find someone else to complete the job (June 16,2025) since they would not uphold their contract and because of all the damage which had been done. New contractor did an excellent job of painting, staining, building a handrail and stairs and I had to pay an additional $2800. We have remained civil and courteous throughout this process. The company does not uphold what their sales person says and writes in the contract. The construction manager does not inspect the subcontractors work to make sure it is done properly. They do not pay for damage that is done to the property and any damage they might attempt to correct does not return to the original quality. Communication is poor with the customers and between their contractors, managers and sales personnel. The completed work is average, nothing special and not as good as expected from the sales spiel and is the only reason I gave them 2 stars instead of 1. I cannot recommend this company and would not use them again."

We specialize in installing decks, fences, and pergolas. We have the expertise to build everything from a simple privacy fence, to custom decks and pergolas. Our team is skilled and ready to make your vision a reality.

"New 2-story deck missed the mark across code, Trex guidelines, and aesthetics. Poor planning. Won't make it right. We lost 5 figures on a 2-man crew that lacks longevity with owner. Hire inspectors before paying final invoice. FYI “Custom Deck and Fence Austin” also has poor reviews on multiple sites noting owner Todd Louis Ratajik of "Good Day Baked Energy Snacks" (Forfeited Existence). Sites now name “Cesar” as owner. Negative reviews disappeared. AFFD has pending lawsuits with Travis County Courts. Unknown AFFD subcontractor alarmingly used my name and address in another client’s lawsuit w**! Standard: Visual consistency. AFFD: Mismatched railing. Todd’s words: "It's the same railing but pinched." (A contractor’s FB review notes lack of materials to properly complete jobs.) Std: Concrete pad supports stairs. AFFD: Stair stringers hover in air, failing to land on concrete. Todd blatantly texted that stringers would step out (not down) from deck. I refuted the abnormality. Top step was cut off; stringers don’t reach concrete. Instead of extending pad or redoing stringers, an ugly post was set. Std: Stairs treads w/o gaps. No overhangs. AFFD: Stringer cuts forgot stairs' fascia; treads weren’t 11+”. Gaps added to meet code -> stair noses >1.25", ie trip hazards. FYI Use rise-to-run guidelines. Std: 42” deck railings. 34-38” stair railings ABOVE boards. AFFD: 44” deck railings. Didn’t supply 34” stair railings; boards grossly notched to lower height, which start at 44”! Std: Posts sit on existing FINISHED concrete pads. (LOL) AFFD: Post had no contact with pad (after removing makeshift shams to hide the blunder) ie ZERO deck weight on ground. Todd asked if this was okay [to not deal with]. Post not corrected at start. Rough concrete poured atop pad to meet post. Ew. Std: 16" oc MAX joist spacing (Trex specs). AFFD: 7 of 13 spacings are >16". No blocking. Add 1 or 2 joists = ~15.5" or 14" spacings. Todd said his ways are “affordable” and “economical”. Eek. Best: Competitor contracts: "12-in joist spacings", "blocking", “glulam beam”. Std: Trex Cocktail Rail Kit (full-width support, hidden fasteners). AFFD: 5.5" wavy floor boards nailed to 1" rail. Visible screws, rough shavings, corner gaps, no support eg 2x4s to flatten board. No countersunk screws and putty to hide nails. Std: Professional aesthetics. AFFD: Not spraying railing cuts = RUST. No continuity in stairs fascia to meet deck edge. Silver bolts on black railings. Posts unequal distance from deck edges. Cedar’s shorter lifespan requires staining / maintenance < Trex’s composite fascia. Std: Disclosure of unforeseen issues. Protocols. Loyal crews. AFFD: Crew wasted a day plotting makeshift repairs after causing roof damage. Licensed roofer was furious about erroneously-cut flashing. Roofers returned after crew again made damaging cuts where told not to. Zero acknowledgement from Todd. AFFD: Crew noted holes in house’s ceiling after removing joist nails. No repairmen references. Not-our-problem mentality. AFFD: 15+ days by 2 tired guys: the hire + his actual neighbor. Ditto to reviewer compelled to supervise. Days start late, end after 7pm. My neighbors had 5 deck builders who left by 6pm still jolly. AFFD: Non-recyclables in recycling bin. Concrete and stinky liquid in trash bin. Cigarette butts, nails, and construction debris across yard. AFFD: Crew won’t tell owner about gray areas and errors in judgments. One unsure if he'd get paid wth. Std: Professionalism. AFFD: No final walkthroughs. Owner ignores items in emails. Condescending; when I climbed a ladder re an issue (that I called a roofer to fix), Todd muttered that I was “an inspector, eh”. Instead of talking measurements, Todd’s retort was “I’m the owner of a deck company”, as if titles alone grant proficiency. Labor is hired out, crew turnover is high. Workmanship depends on whoever is outsourced, who aren’t deck builders so much as guys who "have built decks before". Expect no corrections on what Todd Ratajik deems as "good enough"."

We are a full service Concrete Company. I have 15+ years of experience, and am dedicated to perfection. My work is complete, clean and accurate. I look forward to working with you.

"I recommend B. Martinez Construction and Tree Service in the highest terms possible. Bernardo was punctual and after initial negotiations, Bernardo and his team proceeded to remove the tree. They also removed several branches from a neighboring tree. They were professional and competent workers. They worked steadily and did a good and thorough clean up afterwards. I especially appreciated that Bernardo volunteered to come back the next morning to repair my brick tree ring. I was so impressed with the quality of service I received, I have requested that Bernardo provide me with an additional bid for some brick work. I am always happy when I can find honest, reliable, and capable workers like Bernardo and his helpers!"

Gazebos questions, answered by experts

For many people, a gazebo is worth it, but it’s a matter of personal preference. If you love spending time outside but your yard doesn’t offer much protection from the sun or rain, then adding a gazebo might be worthwhile. Or, if you enjoy hosting dinner parties and want a nice outdoor space to gather with your friends, a gazebo could be a good investment.

The main purpose of a gazebo is to provide a covered space for people to gather comfortably. They’re an excellent place for summertime get-togethers because the roof protects you and your guests from the sun. However, gazebos can also serve as a design feature, adding a bit of charm to a backyard or garden.

To make the gazebo accessible, you can build a wheelchair pathway leading up to it. The path should be paved with a smooth surface for wheelchairs to roll through. A low curb should be placed along each side to ensure the wheelchair stays on the path. At the end of the path, build a wheelchair ramp connecting the gazebo.

Clean regularly, seal wood surfaces, and inspect for damage or rust to ensure longevity and safety.

Yes, many gazebos are permanent structures built onto the land.
