"We recently worked with DJ’s Custom Cabinets in Justin, Texas, and the experience was outstanding from start to finish. The quality of craftsmanship is truly top-tier—every cabinet, drawer, and door reflects careful attention to detail and the use of excellent materials. We came to Don with a very specific vision: flexible shelf spacing, room to accommodate a large television and sound system, and fully custom drawers and cabinet doors. He not only listened but also designed a solution that fit our needs perfectly. The finished cabinetry completely transformed our room from bland to spectacular. Communication with Don was consistently quick, clear, and concise. He personally oversaw every stage of the build and installation, which gave us great confidence in the process. The installation team was friendly, professional, and clearly skilled at their craft. If you're looking for custom cabinetry that combines precision craftsmanship with exceptional customer service, DJ’s Custom Cabinet"

Customers say: Quality work

"Curtis Kuhn has created several custom furniture pieces for me (several are pictured in the pictures section of his company on Angie's List), including an entry way table, a shelf, a coffee table, and a cedar shoe shelf for our closet. His work is great, and he can deliver (and draw up) what you are describing from your head and inspiration photos. He's awesome...hope he doesn't retire before all my projects are done. :)"

"Materials: We went with slab doors due to their elegant simplicity and ease to clean, The refacing , drawer front and door materials consist of an MDF core with maple veneer on both sides of the core. My concern with the doors and drawer fronts was the integrity of the veneer bonding on the edging of the doors. My experience with other cabinet doors was that the edging could eventually come loose when the adhesive aged. However, Scott supplied a finished sample door that. I cut with a saw to examine the veneer and found the bonding to be very strong. The new drawers are made of maple using strong dove tail joinery as compared to the lower quality screw and glue joinery. We elected to use a paint finish. Marott used a catalyzed paint finish which is very tenacious and hard. The hardware was top of the line. The hinges and drawer slides are substantial and self closing (cool!). We went with granite counter tops and new under counter sinks to replace the existing above counter sinks. We purchased new faucets in case the existing faucets could not be removed from the old sinks. However, the existing faucets were fine and installed. Installation: The refacing installers brought a trailer that contained all of their tools and materials. They placed protective pads on all the kitchen counter tops, on all of the inside paths that they would use to get from point A to point B (including the stairs), and on the kitchen, laundry, and bathroom floors The refacing was cut to size at Marott's shop. The openings for the drawers and doors were cut in my driveway. Once the refacing was glued to the existing cabinet facing, the door and drawer openings had to be routed to match the size of the existing openings. This created a lot of dust but the installation crew installed plastic curtains from ceiling to floor which did a good job of containing the dust to just the work areas. The installers vacuumed the dust from everywhere. After all of the installation was complete, they wiped the cabinets inside and out with cleaner to remove any remaining dust. The installers were meticulous, conscientious, and personable. HDS Stoneworks. was subcontracted to supply the granite counter tops . The crew did an excellent job in installing. No major issues occurred. Schedule: From time of order to job completion was about 11 weeks. Installation required 3 days. Commercial Aspects: Marott presented a written, detailed work scope with the final price. Half of the final price was required before work began. Why We Went with Marott: It has been my experience that going with quality over price serves best over time. We went with Marott without looking at other contractors Marott demonstrated that it would provide the highest quality materials, craftsmanship, and work ethic. Being able to deal directly with the owner was also a big factor. During his initial visit, Scott explained the entire process and the materials to be used. He also had a portfolio of past projects which demonstrated the high quality of craftsmanship. We are pleased with the process and the results. I have no doubt that the cabinets and counters will remain beautiful and viable for decades to come."

Closets questions, answered by experts

To prevent sagging, consider both the material and the span of the shelf. Using sturdy materials such as plywood or solid wood can provide better support than particleboard. Additionally, limiting the shelf span to 36 inches or less can reduce the risk of sagging. For longer shelves, incorporating center supports or brackets can offer additional reinforcement.

You can turn an adjacent room into a walking closet by just rearranging the room. This means removing the furniture and adding racks and an island in the center if you have that in your budget. Houses with two bedrooms connected to each other are great options for large walk-in closets that don't require any structural changes or much building whatsoever.

Hanging and folding clothes are efficient ways to pack your clothes during a move. When choosing a packing method, consider the type of clothing you’re packing. For example, clothing such as dresses, suits, blouses, and items made of silk and similar fabrics are ideal for hangers. On the other hand, it’s easier to fold pants, shorts, t-shirts, thick sweaters, and more.

On average, building a custom or built-in closet costs around $2,100. However, the total price can range from as little as $500 for a simple DIY project to $6,000 or more for a large, high-end custom closet. Most projects typically fall between $1,500 and $5,000.

The final cost depends on several factors, including the closet's size, type, materials, and features. Here is a general cost breakdown by closet type:

  • Reach-in closet: $500 to $1,500

  • Walk-in closet: $750 to $5,000

  • Wardrobe: $2,000 to $6,000 or more

Choosing a prefabricated closet system is generally less expensive than a fully custom build. The scope of design and construction services will also significantly impact the price.

A foyer or entryway is typically a formal landing area for guests, located at the primary entrance of a home. It is often more formally decorated and connects directly to the main living space. In contrast, a mudroom is a more casual, utilitarian room, usually leading in from a secondary entrance like a garage or the side or rear of the house. It serves as a space for residents to remove shoes and outerwear to keep mud, dirt, and water out of the main home.
