Amish Cabinets of Texas is a family owned and operated custom cabinet company. We work primarily in Houston, however we do cover the entire state of Texas. We are able to accommodate any new construction or remodel project you might have in your home or commercial space. We have experience in kitchen’s, bathroom vanities, office spaces, bars, entertainment centers, laundry room, mudrooms, closets and specialty rooms. We work with all types of high quality hardwoods: oak, cherry, maple, walnut, hickory, alder, birch, mahogany, and bamboo. Rustic or knotty selections are also available. Due to a low overhead and working directly with an Amish family whose labor rate is nearly a third that of a Master Carpenter, we are able to offer an exceptional product at an affordable price. You can design your own closet, but it’s usually better to hire a professional to do the work for you. Not only will you get years of design experience to guide you toward the right layout and material choices, but you’ll also only pay slightly more hiring a professional than you would creating your own plans and hiring a carpenter. A high-quality closet designer can provide insight into how to lay out your closet, and they may be able to find you a good deal on the carpentry or complete the work using an affordable, in-house team.

Some features and upgrades you can add (some of which increase the closet’s value) are: modular shelving, motion-activated lighting, climate control, custom lighting, cigar humidors, revolving shoe racks, jewelry shelves, custom woodwork, and built-in laundry hampers. While only truly luxury closets have all of these, many custom closets have at least one special feature listed above. 

Bump-out additions can add some space to a closet without requiring any significant structural work. This entails pushing back the existing rear or side of the closet, simply moving the wall into either an adjacent room or unused space. For ground-floor closets, this could even be extended to the exterior of the home, but that has its own complications. Bump-outs are a good discussion to have with your contractor if you’re just looking to increase the space a little—not renovate the entire closet space.

Although you can complete a closet frame in just an afternoon, finishing the entire closet will take a few days to a week. However, that’s still not as much as the average time it takes to remodel a closet, which can take anywhere from several weeks to more than a month. That’s because you also have to consider the time it will take to demolish the existing space, plan a new design, order materials, and actually install it.

The best way to organize storage is to declutter each year to cut down on auxiliary items that can be donated or tossed.
