"I was very pleased with the professionalism Carlos Arizpe and his crew displayed while removing all existing asphalt shingles and all metal flashings and then installing all new materials. The shingles, metal drip and metal valley flashings he installed were of better qualify than the old ones. Carlos even sealed the inner side of the walls at the very top of the chimney that surround and hide the metal smoke vent and replaced flashings around the chimney where it intersects with the roofing. He was on site all the time working while keeping a watchful eye on his crew. The high quality of workmanship was consistent throughout the entire project and the area around the house was cleaned up at the end of each day. I give this recommendation without any hesitation."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

A metal roof can last anywhere from 15 to over 100 years, with an average of 50 years, depending on the material, installation, and environment. The specific metal is a key factor: aluminum roofs may last 20 to 45 years, while steel can last 30 to 60 years. Tin can last for up to 75 years, and more durable options like zinc, stainless steel, and copper can last from 80 to over 100 years. Factors that can shorten a metal roof's lifespan include living in a coastal region with corrosive salt air, improper installation (such as laying over old shingles), and failing to inspect and replace fasteners, which may wear out before the panels.

Copper roofs last an average of around 100 years, making it one of the longest-lasting types of roofs. It’s significantly more expensive than an asphalt shingle roof, but it also lasts three to four times as long, providing great value for the money. You can extend the life of your copper roof by carrying out routine maintenance, like scheduling annual cleaning and roof inspections.

Yes, a new roof will add value to your home, often providing a return on investment (ROI) of between 60% and 70%. Not only will a new roof boost curb appeal, but savvy homebuyers will also know that a new roof means they won’t have to worry about roof leaks and related damage for years after closing. They’ll also know that they’ll save money by potentially having decades before they need to worry about paying for repairs or replacement.

You should definitely be wary of roofing contractors who offer significantly lower prices than their competitors. Most roofers in the area are all dealing with the same cost of materials, and labor costs are often comparable, too. If they’re significantly cheaper than other companies around, it could be a scam. Read reviews and ask other roofing companies and contractors if they’ve heard of the suspected scamming company.

Removing snow from your roof can help prevent ice dams, but the best thing to do is address insulation issues in your attic. If you do decide to remove the snow manually, you should always use a roof rake rather than a shovel. You shouldn’t climb your snowy roof in any circumstance, and roof rake allows you to remove the snow from the ground or a ladder. For the best results, remove snow as soon as possible after it falls.
