"I needed my U drive grated and widen and loads of construction waste loaded into two 18 yard dumpster. Tim of Ground Level Dirt Service did a excellent job of widening and resurfacing my U drive. He made quick work with loading my construction waste in the dumpster, saving me time and not to mention back pain I would have had loading it by hand. Tim is very professional and skilled landscaper and excavator. I would definitely hire him again if needed. If you are needing any type of excavating, landscaping or general ground work done. I highly recommend Tim of Ground Level Dirt Service."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Prior to excavation, you should prepare the dig site and call 311 before you sign anything.

To get your site ready for excavation, you should move anything in the area that isn’t affixed to the land. You can save money on the excavation by removing hardscaping, including walkways, decks, concrete patios, and paver patios.

Before you carry out any digging, you should call 311 to confirm that there are no utility lines running through your excavation site. Skipping this step could lead to severe injury and property damage if your excavator hits a water, sewage, or gas line.

Most residential basements are 8 to 10 feet deep. You can dig deeper depending on building codes, but it does become more difficult. You’ll likely need to install stronger foundation walls and additional supports to handle the increased load. Depending on the water table, you may also need a water management system. Clay soil can support a deeper foundation than sandy soil. A structural engineer will be able to tell you the maximum, feasible depth.

Yes, professional installations include trenching or borehole drilling required for ground loops.

Chipmunks dig their burrows about three feet deep and up to 30 feet long. The entrances can be two inches wide or more. Chipmunks are fiercely protective of their burrows and use them to protect the nuts and seeds they gather for the long winters.

Directional drilling is complex and requires training to use the advanced machinery. It can be challenging to monitor the position of the drill since there’s no direct line of sight. Directional drilling can also be more expensive with a cost of $10 to $30 per linear foot compared to $5 to $12 per linear foot for trenching.
