"Beware of shipping issues with this company. Ordered an ice maker installation kit on 10/10/25. Shipping was due no later than 10/20 according to company and FedEx tracking. FedEx tracking showed the package at their facility for 8 days without moving beginning on 10/15. Called FedEx 3 times. Each time they said they cannot find package and I have to contact shipper. Shipper has to make a claim, they will not mark it as lost. Called Appliance Parts Pros twice. Each time they say FedEx has to mark package lost before they will do anything. They also state they have to wait 14 days from them before doing anything because of their contract with FedEx. I don't care about their contract, I want what was ordered and paid for. Just going in circles with them and FedEX. If they shipped after 14 days it would be 22 days from that point, 32 days from the date of order if they shipped it that day. There was a deadline for installing this part before tenants arrive. They did not care, would not m"

Turns out they don't accept cancellations. 2) I couldn't find a phone number, so I had to work the return/refund by email. The exchange was painful -- so unhelpful I felt like I was interacting with a bad chatbot. 3) I ended up eating shipping costs (expected) and got hit for a 50% restocking fee (unexpected) because I refused the package instead of paying to ship it back. Didn't matter that it went to the correct address, was clearly labeled, and had prior return authorization. If your AC unit isn’t cooling and you haven’t figured out why, there are a few good reasons to turn it off ASAP. The source of the issue, whether that be leaking refrigerant or a broken compressor, will worsen and cause more damage to the overall unit the longer the machine is allowed to run. Not necessarily. Some portable air conditioners may be vented out a door, wall, or ceiling—or even into another room. It’s not necessarily dangerous to run a portable air conditioner without venting it, but it is counterproductive since the unit needs to vent the heat in order to cool the room down in the first place. Without venting your portable AC unit, you’re essentially running a dehumidifier and increasing the temperature in the room. 

Fixing a leak in an AC unit costs $200 to $1,600, depending on the type of leak and any related damage. But depending on the age and condition of your AC, it might make more sense to replace the AC unit instead of repairing it. If your AC is only a few years old and relatively problem-free, then repairing it is the right call. But if it’s nearing a decade old and has other issues, consider replacing it.

If your central AC is not blowing cold air, you should try resetting the system. Many systems have a reset button. Make sure your thermostat is off, then turn off the circuit breaker that powers your AC. Hold the reset button for three to five seconds, then turn the circuit back on. Set your thermostat to cool and choose a temperature cooler than the room. Your system should turn on quickly.

  • Choose the right size AC for your home to ensure your unit runs as efficiently as possible.

  • Choose a window with shade, as direct sunlight can cause your AC unit to overheat. 

  • Clean or replace the filter at least every two months. 

  • Inspect the AC’s fan and straighten it if necessary. 

  • Discontinue use immediately if you suspect a malfunction, as running the AC while broken can lead to significant issues. 

  • Turn off (or adjust the temperature) when you leave the house.
