"They were able to rebrick the upper 10 rows of my chimney to repair the mortar damage, and replace the coating inside the upper segment that had deteriorated. They also coated the outside of the chimney will a clear coat water protector to prevent further damage. Very Professional! My original reason to hire them was to replace the chimney cap, which they also did an excellent job, but glad they caught the additional items needing attention."

"I like and trust Mr Carrillo because of another wonderful  job he did at our home (not roofing) When I set up an appointment it wasn't Mr Carrillo but another company with a different name claiming to work under Mr Carrillo. I didn't like this company because I felt they wanted to get the most of my insurance and as this person told me to use some of the same materials on my roof and still charge me full price what my insurance is willing to pay. By what this person said I decided not to get them.

"Montano Construction poured a concrete foundation for an existing metal building on slag. First things first - they answer their phone, they show up when the say they will, they know their business, and they pay attention to detail. Montano Construction got me out of a dilemma putting a metal building on slag. They dug it out, laid the barrier, put in rebar, and poured the concrete in just days. After it set up a few days, they came back and got any concrete residue off of the metal. It looks brand new. I love my new garage that's no longer dank and damp. These guys are great."

Patio Covers questions, answered by experts

To ensure the installation process goes smoothly, it's wise to ask a potential pro several questions. Key topics to cover include:

  • Licensing and Insurance: Do you have a professional license and insurance to perform this work? This is crucial as installing an awning into a home's exterior can be a complex job.

  • Cost Estimate: What was the price of similar jobs you've completed? Awning installation costs can vary based on size, design, and location, so this helps establish a general price range.

  • Project Timeline: How long will this project take to complete? Getting an estimated timeline provides peace of mind, even though unforeseen hurdles can occur.

  • Building Permits: Will I need a building permit for this project, and who is responsible for obtaining it? An experienced local contractor will be knowledgeable about local rules and regulations.

  • References and Portfolio: Do you have references from previous clients or photos of completed projects? Speaking with past clients and seeing previous work can give you insight into their experience and the quality of their work.

Costs range from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on size, material, and design complexity.

Awnings can be a serious investment for homeowners, particularly if it features a motorized and retractable design. Protect the exterior of your home by choosing a reliable and reputable contractor. Do some research ahead of time to get an idea of the potential contractor’s strengths and weaknesses. Don’t hesitate to give them a call to discuss specifics.

It’s best to keep your awning retracted if winds are 25 miles per hour or more to make sure your awning doesn’t sustain irreparable damage due to wind. Some awnings can take winds up to 30 miles per hour without any damage, but it’s best to consult the manufacturer’s guidance. A good rule of thumb is if it’s too windy for you to comfortably stand outside, it’s time to bring the awning in.

Awnings offer a number of benefits, including:

  • Reduced summer home cooling costs with lower solar heat gains

  • Protection from sun, rain, and snow damage

  • Increased curb appeal for your home

Keep in mind that awnings also have drawbacks, including the potential to reduce your view, block natural light, and create new occasional home maintenance needs.
