The best place to install a dog door is on an exterior door that leads to a fenced-in area of your rear yard. This position will let your dog go in and out as they need and still keep them safe in your yard when they’re outside. You should plan on installing the bottom of the doggie door a minimum of 3 inches above the bottom of your exterior door to maintain the structural integrity of the door, and never cut out a hole within 3 inches of exterior door glass.

You should prime interior doors before painting for the best results. If you do paint directly on the wood, you could see some of the grain patterns show through the paint, in which case you’d need to apply additional coats. Steel doors have a few primary disadvantages. Finally, while they’re highly durable and secure, they are susceptible to dents, scratches, and rusting.

When choosing between an inward- or outward-swinging door, there’s no right answer. Inward-swinging doors are great for avoiding debris and keeping hinges inside for added security. Alternatively, outward-swinging doors can give you more space inside your home, and some homeowners feel they’re harder to force open. Ultimately, neither is “better,” but a door expert can help you figure out which fits your needs.

Check the package of your bifold door. The width shown is half an inch larger than the bifold set. This allows at least 1/4 inch between the side jamb and pivot. When installing the top track, saw the track down to leave approximately 1/6 inch on each end. This will ensure your bifold door folds and unfolds smoothly without getting stuck in the frame.
