"They did a phenomenal job reconfiguring our door frame so it would work with a screen door. They had to modify our existing wood/glass door to work with a new threshold and to allow the new screen door to fit perfectly even though our door frame was not square.. Ramondo was professional, courteous, and a tireless worker. In several cases, there were opportunities where he could have cut corners but instead he showed me what needed to be done for the job to be done right, ....and he did it, even though it caused him to work late on the night before Thanksgiving. I give these guys my highest praise. My family is raving about how incredible the door looks, and how well everything fits together.

"HRR has performed work on a couple properties since 2014. Much of the work was to correct problems left by a previous contractor. Services ranged from floor tile, painting, a/c work, Sheetrock repair, plumbing, appliance installation, blind installation, etc. They manage change requests efficiently and provide cost before work is started. I trust Phil and his contractors with full access to the properties if I am not there.

"Choice responded quickly but the insurance plan does not pay for all doors to be re-keyed unless you have very few locks. The number of locks covered by the insurance is determined by keyholes, not doors! (Read your policy!) You will likely have to shell out some money to have this essential new-home service if you have more than four keyholes. The locksmith they called was EXCELLENT and made all our locks completely functional. We will happily hire the locksmith again (R.L Locksmith LLC). We paid $201.81 (plus another $50 for some door re-alignment not included in the re-keying benefit) and Choice paid $100 for the job."

"The tech arrived 10 minutes early. We discussed the scope of the job. He immediately got to work. Overall he did an outstanding job which was completed timely. Even before leaving he offered suggestions on how to waterproof the lower section of my garage door frame. Great job!!"

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

Proper door lock maintenance includes keeping the locking mechanism clean and clear of dirt, dust, and grime buildup, lubricating the lock annually, inspecting and tightening the lock regularly, and treating the door with care. If your maintenance reveals problems, it may be time to replace the lock or have a professional inspect it.

The easiest way to pick a lock is by using a titanium rake pick. This type of lock pick comes in a variety of shapes used to simulate different key configurations but generally has a tip with a bent design. Rake picks are the most beginner-friendly lockpicks and the simplest to learn how to use.

If your key breaks in a lock, first remain calm and avoid forcing the broken piece further in. You may be able to remove it yourself if a portion of the key is still protruding from the lock. To aid removal, lubricate the keyhole with a graphite-based spray. Then, try using tools like pliers, tweezers, a bobby pin, or even a jigsaw blade to gently grasp and pull the broken piece out. If these methods don't work, you can't reach the key, or you're concerned about damaging the lock, it's best to call a professional locksmith for assistance.

Begin by checking the power source, typically a battery or wired connection. Ensure the battery is installed correctly, has sufficient charge, and isn't corroded. If it's a wired lock, examine the electrical connections to confirm they are secure and free from damage. Additionally, inspect the lock's programming or settings. Confirm that user codes or access credentials are programmed correctly and that any remote control devices are paired and functional.

Yes, you should change the locks as soon as you can after completing the purchase of a house. This is a matter of privacy and security, as you have no idea how many copies of the keys the previous owner made. You can change the locks yourself or hire a pro to replace or rekey the lock, which costs $50 to $100.
