"Jose and his team did a fabulous job replacing the attic insulation, fixing gable vents, and installing a new attic door. The team was fast, efficient, thorough, and clean. Outstanding service at a fair price. Very respectful crew and a very high-quality job. We were very happy with the results and will recommend Insulation JB among our friends and neighbors."

"Work was done on schedule and completed on same day. Very thorough and professional with installation. Considerate of property and personal items. I wanted to be sure that attic was safe and sound with the job and no further issues would need to be addressed at a latter date. Other companies provided quotes but only for the exact job. Attic King's advised issues that they found that would make the home better insulated with the insulation, air sealant and other items that they added at no additional cost to ensure the house was safe and up to code. I would definitely hire them again for additional projects that the company handle. Job was not rushed to get to someone else's house but took time to complete the job and ensure it was done properly. Thanks Attic King's Insulation. Top notch company to work with."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Not necessarily. A higher R-value simply means that the insulation has a higher heat resistance and performs better in terms of how much heat passes through the material. This can be better for some homes, or it can be too high of an R-value for other homes. Again, your climate zone determines whether the insulation is better for your home.

In addition to adding insulation to your attic, you may want to add a radiant barrier. A radiant barrier works by using reflective material, such as foil, on the attic floor. As heat penetrates the roof and enters the attic, the radiant barrier reflects the heat upward and back through the roof. If you receive a lot of direct sunlight on the roof, using both a radiant barrier and insulation in your attic can provide significant benefits.

Yes, even though frost-free and freeze-proof faucets are designed to withstand winter weather, it is still recommended to cover them with an insulated cap, especially during periods of extreme cold. These faucets work by keeping excess water inside the home's heated space and using a downward slope to drain, but this protection can be compromised. For the faucet to work correctly, you must always disconnect any attached hoses before temperatures drop below freezing, as a hose can trap water and lead to freezing. Ultimately, covering all outdoor faucets, even freeze-proof models, is the best way to prevent frozen and burst pipes.

A DIY blown-in insulation project in a typical attic should take you no more than a week to complete. Experienced homeowners can blow an entire attic in one or two days.

Water freezes at 32 degrees Fahrenheit, but the actual temperature that can cause frozen pipes can vary. Generally, it takes 12 hours for pipes to freeze at 32 degrees Fahrenheit.

Uninsulated pipes can freeze if it’s 20 degrees Fahrenheit or colder for over three hours. If your pipes are insulated, it can take six hours or longer for pipes to freeze. Note that some pipe types freeze more often than PEX pipes. Copper pipes freeze more often because the copper conducts energy and loses heat quickly.
