I've lived in Dallas for only a little while, but it already feels like home, I started this company because I wanted to be my own boss and build my own future. I am easygoing, I like to have fun with the process!. I most want my customers to know I always put myself in my customers shoes, treat their home like my own.

"Reeds has exceeded all my expectations...! Despite a large number of downed trees damaging the fences and gate over this last stormy year, Reeds has kept up their inspections of the property, communicated with me quickly regarding authorizing any needed work and performed it quickly as well as providing detailed video documentation of the damages for my Insurance provider. Most recently, while out of town, a serious windstorm took down 3 large trees, which of course, fell on the nearest fence. Based on hearing the news reports of the storm that had affected the Bryan-College Station area, Reeds conducted an "unscheduled" inspection of our property, contacted me via phone and email with photos of the damage, and upon authorization, removed the trees and repaired the fencing before any of my neighbor’s livestock could make a break for it. Reeds prices are on par with other Outdoor Contractors in the area, but their attention to detail, quality of their work and especially their CUSTOMER SERVICE are far and away the best in the Bryan-College Station area, even tho they are headquartered in Dallas. Being able to rely on ONE contractor for everything from mowing, tree service, fencing, roofing and exterior building maintenance is a blessing. Reeds provides the best value, by far and I give them my highest recommendation."

"John did an amazing job, he got back to me quickly and was super helpful. He built a fence for me and stained it, it came out beautiful. I am hoping to build a deck later in the year and I will definitely be calling John as soon as we are ready. Great job and great customer service."

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

A deck that isn’t attached to a house is called a floating or freestanding deck. These standalone decks are built near ground level, so they usually don’t need deck stairs. Some don’t even require permits. Generally speaking, building a floating deck is faster and more DIY-friendly than constructing one that’s connected to your home.

Building a deck isn't too hard if you’re handy with carpentry, have the necessary tools, and are willing to put effort into it. However, other factors, such as plans, permits, and design, can be hard if you don’t have experience in those areas.

Note: You’ll need another person to help you build the deck (especially for framing and setting the beams). Building a deck yourself will be very difficult if you don’t have an extra set of hands to help.

Building a deck without a permit could lead to fines for both the homeowner and the contractor. The exact penalties will depend on your state and municipal building laws. You might also be required to remove the deck and apply for a permit before you can build another. While it might be tempting to skip the permit to save a few bucks, it’ll cost you much more if you’re caught.

Composite decking is the best material for individuals living with disabilities who want to age in place. The material is anti-slip, which increases safety throughout the year. It’s also highly durable and requires minimal maintenance, so it doesn’t add another item to the individual’s to-do list. It’s also a good option for improving wheelchair accessibility at home, as it can easily manage a wheelchair ramp.

The overhang, or nosing, of deck steps is another area that will be covered in building code requirements. The noses on your deck steps should have a minimum overhang of ¾ inch. For safety, usability, and code compliance, the nosing of deck steps should not extend past 1¼ inches.
