"Lon Pinckard just finished a big job for me. I couldn't be more pleased. Drainage, driveway, fence, replace railroad tie retaining wall with stone, flagstone patios, and landscape all around. "They did great work. My bridge was impassable due recent flooding/ erosion. We were stranded at home. Unable to get out/across. Jose-Hernandez Brothers said it would be the following Tuesday (five days later) until he could do the job (this meant we would miss attending our Grandson's Graduation Party). However, due situation, they took time off to come out and make the repairs that Saturday. Pavers are a type of permeable hardscape that can be used for driveways, patios, walkways, and other landscaping features. Unlike poured concrete or asphalt, pavers typically have a layer of gravel underneath to prevent water runoff from damaging your property—though you can also lay pavers on grass. Because pavers are installed piece by piece, you can customize a one-of-a-kind hardscape that best suits your aesthetics, boosting your curb appeal along the way.

Paver driveways are durable and aesthetically pleasing, but they do have a few cons. For instance, paver driveways are often more expensive than asphalt and concrete driveways. They also make it easier for weeds to grow where the separate pavers meet up. They may also be more likely to settle over time.

An ideal driveway gradient is between 2% and 5%. Anything lower than 1% or higher than 15% can cause problems for your car or property. A driveway with less than a 1% slope increases your likelihood of flooding and water damage, while a driveway with a 15% grade or higher can be too steep for safe traveling.

You’ll first need to install a base underneath your pavers for extra stability and drainage. Otherwise, the pavers can sink into the ground, and you’ll have to reinstall them. Use a base gravel layer of 4 to 6 inches for walkways and 10 to 12 inches for driveways. Compact your gravel layer every 2 to 4 inches so it’s nice and solid. After you install your gravel base, apply a 1-inch layer of sand on top.

Three inches is a great thickness for a residential asphalt driveway that sees minimal to moderate traffic from cars, SUVs, and pickup trucks. However, a thicker driveway can better withstand the weight of a heavier vehicle, such as a trailer or a recreational vehicle. If you drive a heavy vehicle on a thin driveway, you risk cracking and damaging it.
