"Title: Some ups, mostly downs
If you want a simple remodel of a small bathroom, Re-bath lives up to its hype and will do the job very quickly and fairly well. If you
want something more, caveat emptor.
Our saga started in March 2014, when we had a lengthy consultation with the sales guy and signed the initial contracts. Right from
the start, the sales guy insisted that the project would take 4-6 DAYS to complete after all of the products were in and the work was started. Tony insisted this even though the project included a small bathroom with new tile floors, shower enclosure, vanity, cabinets, fixtures, and replacing a standard door with a pocket door; and a master bathroom with all of the same plus additional cabinets, two pocket doors, a jetted tub, and a tankless water heater. I had upped that estimate to two weeks in my mind, but we were both way off.
We started the wait for project materials to arrive. Part of the delay was our fault for taking time to select the tub and fixtures we wanted. The first snag came in April, when Tony told us that the shower enclosure we chose was being discontinued. This was a big problem because we chose everything else in the bathroom to go with the shower enclosure we originally picked. It took a good month for the samples of the new materials to arrive and of course we needed to see everything together so we could select cabinets and tile to match our new surround color. We are into June by this point, and again waiting for the materials to arrive. Finally, finally we get word from the project manager that the work could start on July 7 and would take 4 ? 6 WEEKS to finish. After much argument, he agreed to try to finish in a month. OK, the small bath was done first and it was complete within 4 days, yay. We discovered many details were overlooked but they were eventually finished. With the master bathroom, it was one thing after another. The vanity went in but the fixtures weren?t centered properly. We received a tower unit for the vanity, but Re-bath never validated the measurements with us and it wound up taking up too much space. When the right unit arrived, it had to be moved TWICE because, again, measuring was not done properly. The new wall with a pocket door was hung crookedly and the pocket door didn?t close properly. The threshold between the master bedroom and the bathroom, and between the bathroom and closet were sloppy and mismatched.
When Re-bath considered the project finished, we had a punch list of 24 items?stupid things such as not sealing the top of the enclosure to the wall and not sealing the entry to the jetted tub, among other things. Nearly every item on the punch list was due to lack of care of their part and all could have been avoided through proper supervision and review of the work. The glass for the shower, while OK, was not frameless as specified in the contract. The glass is the only thing that?s bringing this review up to three stars, however, because Re-bath agreed to reduce the contract price for most of the cost of replacing the shower glass by someone
who knows how to make frameless glass enclosures.
The fiasco with the water heater is quite another matter. The Re-bath sales guy probably should not have agreed to include the water
heater as part of the project, but he did include it and said it would be no problem. Their master plumber is the only one allowed to deal with that sort of thing. Finding time in his schedule and coordinating the installation with the inspectors brought one problem after another. Initially, he measured the existing conventional water heater and ordered the parts needed for the gas lines and the exhaust flue. When he came to install it, he realized that he ordered the wrong size flue so had to order another, which took another week.  Then he said that they needed a special platform ladder, but there was not one to rent in the entire city. The fact that it took weeks to look for the ladder needed for the installation is unbelievable, but it happened. After the installation, it rained and there was leak and they had to send the roofer out to properly seal that leak.
In the end, what soured us on Re-bath is the lack of communication. It appears that this is a common problem for contractors, and
one that is so easily solved. If Re-bath had bothered to stay in touch on a regular basis, we would have grumbled but would have accepted delay after delay after delay so much better, and I think all of us would have been much happier. The project was finally completed in October 2014. After the project was finished, one of the owners of the franchise booked time with us to discuss the
project so he could use it as a teaching situation, but he forgot about setting up the appointment and did not show. When we called, he asked ?what did we do wrong now?? not even realizing his error. We were fed up and did not wish to waste any more time with them on this.
Re-bath is not cheap. In the end, we like our bathrooms and think the materials are attractive and (we hope) durable. But it was a painful process and we cannot recommend Re-bath for anything except simple bathroom remodels. They claim two things that set
them apart ? speed and a no-additional-cost-for-any-surprises-behind-the-walls guarantee. They did live up to the latter promise, but fell far short on the speed promise.

Kitchen Cabinet Refacing questions, answered by experts

No, in most cases, you do not have to remove your countertops to reface cabinets. Since refacing primarily involves updating the doors, drawer fronts, and exterior surfaces, your existing countertops can usually stay right where they are, making the process quicker and less disruptive. However, if your counters prevent the access needed to remove doors and drawers, they may need to be temporarily removed. It's best to consult with a professional cabinet contractor to assess your specific kitchen layout during an estimate.

Since there are many methods of repairing your cabinets, including refacing and refinishing, it can be tricky to know when to replace or fix your existing cabinets. Generally, it’s best to repair your existing cabinets when the cabinet boxes are in good condition. Additionally, this option is best when you’re being budget-friendly or remodeling.

Replacing your cabinets is best when you’re changing the layout of the room or when the cabinet boxes are in rough shape. It’s also best to replace your cabinets if you need more storage space, as this will remove the existing cabinets for new ones.

The refacing process involves removing old cabinet fronts, applying veneer to frames, installing new doors, and updating hardware. It can enhance kitchen or bathroom appearances without extensive renovations.

To prepare for cabinet refinishing or refacing, it’s important to remove all items from the cabinetry in question. In addition, clear any clutter from the room, whether it's the kitchen, bathroom, or otherwise. Be sure to have additional cabinet materials, such as cabinet hardware, lights, and glass inserts, ready for your cabinet installer to use.

Finally, if you have pets, ensure they are in a safe, separate location away from your cabinet professionals, who will bring materials in and out of your home during the process.

If you simply need to refresh the color of your cabinets, a coat of paint will make your entire room look brand-new. However, if your cabinet doors are damaged, you might consider cabinet refacing. Cabinet refacing involves replacing the doors, drawer fronts, and hardware, upgrading and repairing them. Consult a cabinet professional about the best option to upgrade your kitchen cabinetry.
