"I hired Mr. Hagen and his team to clear a little over 10 acres and fix a pond dam for me. I am happy to say I was so pleased with the results. They were awesome at communicating and providing details and updates of the work they were doing. My land has never looked better!!"

"I recently had the pleasure of working with Ladder 5 Fencing and Land Clearing, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the results. They came out to help clear some trees, complete some road work, and build a privacy fence, and I’m extremely satisfied with the professionalism and quality of their work. Overall, I would highly recommend Ladder 5 Fencing and Land Clearing. Their team was punctual, knowledgeable, and took the time to ensure everything was done to my satisfaction. I’ll definitely reach out to them again for any future projects."

"I needed a 40x40 area leveled and made ready for a shop. This guy worked his butt off to make it perfect. He tolerated me bird dogging him and didn’t seem to be bothered by it. Job got done faster than I thought it would, looks better than some other work I have seen, and if your like me and wonder where “customer service” has gone to in this new day and age we live in… Look no further, Dirty Works is old school when it comes to customer care service. I really feel like they put me first and really paid attention to my needs. Thank you guys. Keep up the good work. I’ll be calling again soon."

"I couldn’t be happier with the barbed wire fence that was built for my horses. The workmanship was excellent, and it was clear from start to finish that quality and safety were top priorities. The fence is sturdy, well-constructed, and looks great. Communication was excellent throughout the project, and everything was completed on time and exactly as promised. It’s hard to find someone who takes this much pride in their work. I highly recommend them to anyone needing fencing done and will definitely use them again in the future."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

The cost to repair a crawl space runs between $1,500 and $15,000, depending on the extent of the damage. Major flooding or water repairs can cost up to $10,000 for removal and repairs. If you simply need to clean your crawl space, expect to pay between $2,000 and $6,000 for a major cleanout. Replacing a crawl space beam due to rot or damage can cost between $1,500 and $5,000, while removing and replacing damaged insulation costs between $1,000 and $4,000.

Yes. A metal detector is one of the quickest and easiest ways to find your septic tank. However, metal detectors can be too expensive (costing upward of $300 in some cases), and not everyone has a metal detector just lying around. If that’s the case for you, you can also take a long metal rod and poke it into the ground at regular intervals until you hit something—likely your septic tank lid.

The digging depth will depend on the size of the trencher you use. Even smaller units can dig up to 4 feet deep, which is plenty for a DIY job. However, much larger trenchers can reach a depth of 18 feet and are better used by a team of pro contractors, not a single DIYer. As with all home improvement projects, use the right tool for the job and proceed with caution.

No, a ditch isn’t a trench. A ditch is an open, relatively shallow channel that’s carved out of the ground and used for drainage purposes. In contrast, a trench is a deeper excavation that’s entirely underground. Trenches have many uses, including gas lines, sewage systems, and electrical wiring. Unlike trenches, ditches don’t get filled back in with dirt after they’re dug.

How deep your septic system needs to be into the ground depends on several factors. In extremely cold environments, the tank needs to rest below the maximum frost line, which can be up to six or eight feet deep. The standard burying depth for most systems is between a few inches and four feet below ground level. Depth can also depend on the slope of the landscaping and other property variables.
