"They did exactly as we asked, and made good judgment calls in "gray areas" - for example, made a good judgment to keep branches that increased privacy once he saw that the branches don't interfere with trucks passing by. Identified a damaged part of a tree for us to keep watch over; thinned this tree out significantly to take as much weight as possible off the damaged branch. Thoroughly trimmed branches away from roofline and wires. Was nice enough to come back hours later that day to review the work with us and collect payment. I would recommend Langley's Tree Service and would use them again."

Garbage Collection questions, answered by experts

Replacing a garbage disposal costs anywhere from $150 to $950, but the average cost is somewhere around $550. There are two types of garbage disposal units, and continuous feed disposals tend to cost more than batch feed disposals. Going for an aluminum garbage disposal is also significantly cheaper than choosing a stainless steel garbage disposal. You'll also need to factor in the horsepower of the motor, labor, and the removal and disposal of your old unit.

If the cost of repairing a leaking garbage disposal is close to the cost of replacing the disposal, then fixing the unit might not make sense. When deciding if you should repair or replace your garbage disposal, consider the age of your garbage disposal, the cost of the repair, and whether your garbage disposal has had other problems recently to help you decide if the cost of repairing the leak is better than the cost of replacing the disposal.

Garbage disposals are durable appliances that usually last at least eight years as long as you clean and maintain them. It’s relatively rare for a garbage disposal to break on its own, as most malfunctions happen due to user errors, like overstuffing the grinding compartment or damaging the blades by trying to dispose of metal or bone. Eventually, cracks or leaks could develop in the unit, which requires a full replacement.

If you cook a lot or have a larger household, a garbage disposal can be worth it, since it streamlines your kitchen duties and helps to keep food waste out of landfills. It helps to know the cost of garbage disposal installation before you make your decision. The average price is about $400, but you can expect to pay more for higher-end models or if you hire a pro to do the job for you.

While unplugging your garbage disposal and plugging it back in may help, most units have an actual reset button, a bright red switch found on the underside of your unit. If your garbage disposal needs resetting, you may notice this button sticking out about a quarter of an inch from the surface of the unit, with which it’s usually flush. Simply depress this reset button to reset the unit, and then test to ensure it’s working about 10 minutes later.
