"We absolutely love our new windows and so does everyone who sees them. Our rep helped us pick the best match for our brick and kept our personal needs in mind when determining the design of the new windows. We have an upstairs room which had a window AC unit that we no longer need due to the windows being so well insulated. In fact, we have already seen a huge difference in our utility bills this past summer during record setting heat wave. Depending on the window style and your home's layout, you can install replacement windows from either the inside or the outside. Many installations are done from the inside because it allows for better access and weather protection, but some exterior installs are easier for certain types of siding or trim. The key is choosing the approach that gives you the best access to the frame while keeping the existing structure intact.

While all windows require some maintenance, vinyl windows are the least hands-off. They’re easy to clean, weather resistant, and extremely durable. If you like the look of wood windows but hate the price tag and high maintenance requirements, you can add a faux wood finish to vinyl as well. 

Most properly installed and maintained windows last between 15 and 20 years. Fiberglass windows last much longer than your average window. Since they don’t warp from temperature changes, rust, or rot, you might be able to hold onto fiberglass windows for up to 40 years. On the other hand, poorly maintained wood windows may only last for a few years.

It’s easy to tell if you have low-E windows. Light a match or grab a pen light and hold it up to your windows. You should see multiple reflections in the window—four for double-pane windows. If one of the reflections is a slightly different color than the other three, you have low-E windows. If you don’t have low-E windows, all the reflections will be the same color.

The best way to clean outside windows is by using a garden hose. Start by spraying the windows with a high-pressure stream to clear off loose dirt and grime. Then use a mixture of hot water and dish soap and scrub the windows with a sponge. Rinse off the soapy water with the hose. Before you finish up, spray the windows with a solution of vinegar and water and wipe them down with a microfiber cloth.
