While you can put Drano in a sink with standing water, most plumbers don’t recommend doing so. It usually doesn’t help to clear the clog, and you’ll end up with a sink full of standing water plus a toxic chemical—which is very unpleasant to deal with and best handled by a professional.

Watch for sinkholes in your yard. Also, if the water pressure in your sinks, showers, and other fixtures is notably lower, this is usually a sign that an underground water line is leaking. This affects sprinkler lines and can make the sprinklers shoot out water with very little water pressure, meaning they won’t water your lawn and garden as effectively as normal.

Installing a clawfoot tub with a minimum of 6 inches of clearance from surrounding walls allows ample room for the faucet and pipework, makes cleaning easier, and reduces the chance of moisture being trapped between the tub and the walls. It might need to be closer if the faucet comes directly out of the wall.

As long as you have the correct tools, know how to turn off the water lines, and are able to work in tight spaces, replacing a faucet in a bathroom is a potential DIY job. It requires many of the same steps as replacing a kitchen faucet, but it’s more challenging than replacing a showerhead.
