"The contractors were polite, professional and considerate. My mother was very ill and they always wanted to know if their noise was disturbing her. When she napped, they worked on things like removing wallpaper and installing light fixtures. When she was up, they did demo. They were awesome! The job was done well and they made suggestions to improve the design. They ROCKED!

"Matt‘s crew did a complete remodel for me. Floors, subfloors, floor joists, paint, refinish walls and ceilings, new kitchen counter, plus a laundry list of other repairs. Great guys to work with that do great work. Already got them booked for my next project as well. I’d highly recommend"

"Alex from this business was on time and did a very good job. I was very nervous hiring someone to paint my room as I dealt with anxiety. He was so kind and even recommended a different color paint to help my anxiety. Very beautiful. Thank you again Smith’s Southern Services. Will definitely be going back."

"The man I talked to was very professional and timely. However, he explained that this particular job was beyond the scope of what their company does. I would certainly use them on another 'issue'.

Subcontractors questions, answered by experts

Dark academia is more of an interior decorating style than it is a type of architecture, but it calls on themes prevalent in gothic architecture. Part of the appeal of dark academia is that you can achieve the look and feel without renovating or remodeling your home. Instead, you can switch to a dark color palette and introduce metal, natural wood furniture, plaid decor, old books, and gothic decor to get the look and feel just right.

Building permits serve a few purposes, the most important of which is to keep you and the people around you safe by ensuring your contractor does work safely and to code. Permits also help your municipality tax your property appropriately, as taxes are based on land improvements and the upgrades you make to your home. Finally, permits ensure your project won’t have a negative impact on the environment or your neighbors.

When conducting space planning, building codes and regulations need to be considered. As long as you are taking them into account and discussing them with the architect, you should be able to do your space planning appropriately.

Building designers charge between $2,000 and $50,000, depending on project scope, complexity, and customization.

You don’t have to commit to a complete home renovation to age in place comfortably—those can get pricey. Instead, focus on a few impactful changes. Consider adding a stair lift or installing ramps to eliminate barriers. Upgrading to non-slip flooring can prevent falls while adding brighter lighting can improve visibility throughout your home. These thoughtful updates can make your home much easier to navigate and enhance your comfort and safety without the stress and cost of a complete overhaul.
