Small jobs welcome

"I couldn’t be happier with the work done on my deck! From start to finish, the communication was clear, the work was completed on time, and the attention to detail was outstanding. They took the time to make sure everything was sturdy, safe, and beautifully finished. My deck looks brand new again, and the craftsmanship really shows. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone needing repairs or upgrades—professional, reliable, and skilled!"

My name is Joshua Hale. I am the owner and operator of Helping Hand Handyman. I've been a resident to the area all of my life. I'm married to my beautiful wife Elizabeth. We raised seven children together. I really enjoy working for clients and helping to build their dreams. Whatever they may be. It's not just about the money, but about the experience for me. I really enjoy helping people and solving problems. There's not much I can't do when it comes to your homestead. Everything from the ground up. Electrical, plumbing, excavating, carpentry, any and all of your needs I can probably take care of. Thanks for your consideration and I look forward to meeting you. " When you need a helping hand. "They did a fantastic job! The deck is in good shape, but had never been sealed or stained. Therefore, some mold had gotten on it and it just needed to be stopped before it got any worse. They cleaned it very thoroughly and all the mold is gone! Their communication was awesome as well.
They are coming back in a week to paint our front door and shutters, and then coming in early October to seal our deck. We look forward to future projects with them as well!
Would recommend them to anyone!"

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Yes, designing builds to fit space constraints and meet functional needs.

Composite decking requires a solid foundation, substructure, or subframe to ensure stability. This base is typically composed of posts, beams, joists, and footings. The frame's joists can be built from various materials like composite, plastic, timber, or metal, as long as the base can support the deck's weight without shifting. A professional deck builder might recommend installing the frame on a solid concrete base for added durability. The final design and materials for the substructure will depend on your budget, the type of deck, and environmental conditions.

Deck stairs should have at least three stringers rather than two. The recommended minimum width for stairs is 36 inches, and the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors recommends at least three cut stringers to provide sufficient support on wood decking stairs of this width. Generally, stringers should be a maximum of 16 inches apart for wood decking and 12 inches apart for more flexible composite decking.

To prepare a deck for a hot tub, start by thinking about safe and easy access in and out of the tub. Homeowners should plan for steps or consider built-in seating, a level surface around the perimeter, and a clear, slip-resistant path from the house. A hot tub requires sufficient space around it for comfortable entry and exit, ensuring no awkward squeezing or stepping over high edges. Good lighting and handrails can also make a big difference, especially for nighttime use.

Yes, you can build a deck around a fire pit, as long as it is safely enclosed, meets code requirements, and is at least 15 feet away from your home. You’ll want to ensure you have a heat-resistant barrier between the fire pit and your deck to prevent any structural damage and fires. A galvanized ring surrounded by pavers, brick, or stone makes for a beautiful, safe, and sturdy design.
