"After our review of bids we decided to award Gartman Landscaping our project to completely redo the front and back area of our home site. The work was very involved and somewhat of a complex project that would required excellent communication and coordination with his team and us. Silas and his crews performed very well. It was a pleasure to have them work at our home and they were very professional and always kept a clean job site. As mentioned the project was involved and communication regarding add ons was not as precise as I would have liked. But overall we are very pleased with Silasâ s efforts to help mitigate cost. The workmanship is top notch and they always kept me apprised as to delays,(weather) or otherwise. We are thrilled with the end result and love looking at and enjoying our yard. The work involved scraping and preparing the grade. Bluff clearing. Hardscaping, boulder walls, irrigation, planting shrubs and trees and turf. Thank you to Silas, Casey, Gareth, Dalton, Darius, and the entire team."

Snow Removal questions, answered by experts

Ice dam removal is costly, but it’s absolutely worth it. If you leave an ice dam as is and don’t take care of it, you’re looking at potentially dangerous situations and high-cost repairs—like roof collapse, leaks, mold problems, gutter damage, and more. Removing ice dams is essential to keeping your home and your family safe in the snowy season.

Yes, snow should be removed from a deck to protect it from damage caused by moisture and heavy loads. Shovel the snow off of your deck regularly once it is more than four inches deep. Avoid using salt, which can damage your deck.

The best way to save money on snow removal is to sign up for a seasonal contract that guarantees service throughout the entire winter. Most companies charge between $200 and $600 for this service, and they’ll often give you a break on the price if you extend annually. Of course, savings will depend on your area. If you live in a moderate climate where snowfall may or may not occur, you could pay more than you need during a light snow year. Still, it’s usually a safe bet to sign a seasonal contract.

While removing every snowflake from your roof is unnecessary, you should remove a significant buildup of snow. Since snow is wet and heavy, it can easily cause damage to your roof, which can lead to needing costly repairs.

Additionally, when the snow melts but has nowhere to go and refreezes, it can create an ice dam, causing mold concerns due to water leaking into your attic and ceiling. For these reasons, it’s best to hire a snow removal professional to clear heavy snowfall from your roof as soon as possible.

Removing snow from your roof can help prevent ice dams, but the best thing to do is address insulation issues in your attic. If you do decide to remove the snow manually, you should always use a roof rake rather than a shovel. You shouldn’t climb your snowy roof in any circumstance, and roof rake allows you to remove the snow from the ground or a ladder. For the best results, remove snow as soon as possible after it falls.
