"My wife and I are acting as general contractor to build our home on our lot. We hired Artica Construction as sub contractor to perform most all of major areas of work to build our home up through completion of shell of home. Continuing to use them for various other areas of home build such as insulation and drywall install. Artica Construction has been very accommodating and flexible to work with in all aspects. Workmanship is performed in an professional manner and expeditiously completed. This company works very well with individuals who want to be their own general contractor or they can provide full service as a general contractor and accomplish the complete build of a home on your lot if you wish."

"Dillon gave a fair price for storm damage to an old structure. He was upfront with schedule and updated with delays. Final result was very satisfactory. All workers were professional. I will contact Stefaniak for future construction needs. So happy with results!"

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

When deciding if you should use 2x6 or 2x8 deck joists, consider the size of the deck, joist spacing, and materials. Larger decks, larger-spaced joists, and weaker wood all require more support, meaning they need larger joists. For example, 2x8 redwood joists spaced 16 inches apart can only safely span up to 10 feet and 7 inches. On the other hand, 2x10 southern pine joists spaced 12 inches apart can be as big as 16 feet and 2 inches. If you aren’t sure what size joist is best for your project, speak with your deck builder.

You may need a permit to install your window seat. Even though it's an indoor modification, some municipalities require permits for any built-ins added to homes. Check with your carpenter or, if you're DIY-ing, do some research on your city's requirements.

Yes, you can hang picture frames, shelves, and other items on Trusscore panels. For lightweight items (less than 30 pounds), the company recommends using adhesive strips rather than nails or screws. However, you’ll need to secure heavier objects to a stud in the wall. In these situations, Trusscore recommends cutting away the panel material and fastening the object to the stud with metal hardware.

The cost to frame a 2,000-square-foot house can fall anywhere between $14,000 and $32,000. This price can increase or decrease depending on what type of framing you choose, the quality of the materials, the project's complexity, and whether you decide to hire a professional to do the job.

Yes, you will need a jack for a rim joist replacement. To prevent sagging and facilitate the removal of load-bearing wood, you’ll need to relieve the pressure from this joint before beginning work.

Due to hydraulics and other specialized equipment, a sill plate and rim joist replacement are not typically a DIY project. Hiring a professional structural engineer and experienced contractors is the best approach to replacing rotted sill plates and rim joists.
