Customers say: Quick response

"I hired Cottonwood Renovations to start from scratch on an apartment on the 2nd floor of my apartment building. From start to finish he managed the entire project. Nothing but good things to say about Jeremy and Cottonwood Renovations! Timely communication from start to finish along with impeccable work. Jeremy is very meticulous and shows it in his attention to detail and craftsmanship. My wife and I plan to build a new home in the very near future and the only person we will trust with the job is Jeremy Schaafwith Cottonwood Renovations! ."

"Super great carpenter! Did a great job with whatever I asked and he stands behind his bids and his job. He came back and checked things over a year later and made sure everything was still up to par."

"Amanda was really very good!  At first I was very skeptical, thinking why did I pay money to just speak with someone on the phone about my kitchen remodel project... but after just a few minutes of her addressing some of the issues/questions I emailed to her earlier, I knew it was worth it.  It was very clear that she knew her business and she gave me several ideas that I had not even thought about.  I told her that I would definitely recommend her to friends and I will very likely use her again myself for my next home project!

Small jobs welcome

"Have worked with Caleb on remodel of guest bathroom. Doing Master bathroom this time. Waiting for shower removal and new installation till August. Bathroom Co. scheduled a painter they had not used before. I would caution them about using Precision Painting. My one concern is that they do not wait the recommended 4 hours before applying the second coat. Otherwise, painters were careful, did cleanup perfectly."

"He kept us informed of his intended start date, waited until after a predicted storm had passed to begin his work, kept the driveway clear for our vehicles, and cleaned up after each days work. The workmanship was a 4 star as two minor issues had to be corrected. I was very pleased withthe work."

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

You can paint your ceiling or install a drywall ceiling if the ceiling is unfinished, as they take up less headroom than drop ceilings.

If there are pipes in the way of ceiling installation, you can do one of two things: reroute the pipes or adjust the installation to fit, which will cost extra.

Making a window in a basement larger costs an average of $4,200. You’ll need to pay an average of $550 to have a structural engineer plan the project, $500 to $1,500 for the installation labor, and an average of $2,200 for the excavation and window well installation. The remainder will go toward pulling permits, installing trim, and repairing drywall on the interior.

Envision the type of bar experience you'd like to create for your guests. For example:

  • Does your basement have enough finished space for bar stools or seating?

  • What type of additional lighting would set the tone for the room?

  • Are there basement windows or an HVAC system?

  • Do you need new plumbing in your basement for a proper wet bar?

  • Could you be happy with a built-in wall cabinet bar rather than a full-scale wet bar?

Since DIYing a basement remodel isn't typically advised, there are some ways that you can still save money on this project without putting yourself in danger. Some ways to save money on a basement remodel include:

  • Painting walls yourself versus including in the cost of the remodel

  • Installing light fixtures yourself

  • Choosing prefabricated fixtures, like cabinets, over custom ones

  • Choosing a budget-friendly flooring option, like laminate or vinyl flooring, and add rugs where necessary

Renovations that add functionality or more comfortable floor space generally add the most value when remodeling your home. Attic or basement finishing can add floor space without altering the home's structure, saving you renovation money while adding valuable space. Smaller improvements, such as installing smart-home components or replacing entry doors and windows, also experience high ROIs.
