"Mount Valley is the epitomy of an honest, fair, reliable, efficient, professional, and customer service oriented company. Our coordinator, Ryan McAlister, was extremely knowledgeable and informative during inspection of our crawl space water issues, and his subsequent repair recommendations. Ryan was like a professor explaining retrofitting encapsulation of the crawl space and basement water issues with a slab, along with discussing such encapsulation during a new build vs. standard floor insulation in a crawl space in a climate above 60% humidity. Fascinating and educational discussion for me as an homeowner with very limited knowledge of the subject. Ryan was patient and is truly an expert. He also provided additional advice on other ground water issues and recommendations for us as homeowners to try, outside the crawl space, in order to save us money. His crew was extraordinarily hard working and diligent, personable and friendly. They did a great job in every detail relative to trench digging, gravel, wrapping, wall insulation, sump pump, dehumidifier, and drainage. Very well done and much appreciated professionalism and expertise. Very impressed with the coordinated team work demonstrated by the whole crew, Damian (foreman), Mac, and David. Very impressive young men. My wife wanted to adopt them and Ryan upon completion of the project, which was done in grueling heat, humidity, and wet conditions. Job well done. Great company. "He tried to see if the water heater could be repaired, but it was too damaged from rust. He replaced it with a new one with a six year warranty. He protected the floor with plastic from possible leaks before he removed it and was careful to clean everything up before he left. He also made sure it was working before he left. He was very nice."

"They didn't end up doing the work. They were really high on what they wanted to do. Other people who looked at the porch said that it was not causing an issue with any water intrusion and that there doesn't seem to be any signs on the posts that this could have been recent, it could have been long ago. So no work was done. It was a front porch that had just the level concrete on one side was dipping just a little bit. I think they were going to pump it up from underneath or something like that to level it out. I would say that their response time and their professionalism of getting the quote to us on a timely manner was good. The quote was high and yet the work was not necessary according to other quotes. They should be honest to say when repairs are necessary and when they are not. The guy who showed up was nice and professional and was on time. There was a decent response time."

"Everyone we dealt with from Cantey Foundation Specialists were very professional, timely, and caring throughout the entire process from job estimate to the actual work done. While the work done did not bring all areas back completely to their original states, with the exception of one area, they were all pretty close. Realistically, It's very difficult to fix in two days what has taken place over a period of years. I am very satisfied with the job done. Grayson (job estimator) and Estevan (crew leader) were very helpful and great to work with through the entire process."

"Bought this in the spring to use before burning in the fall/winter.  Ended up moving in December and did not use it.
I'm wasn't sure how to score a company I didn't use (and not reviewing isn't really an option), so I just picked a score consistent with the average rating.

Basement Waterproofing questions, answered by experts

Walkout basements cost more than other kinds of basements, and can also increase your risk of leaks as well as a loss of insulation, leading to higher heating and cooling costs. Improperly installed walkout basements may lead to structural issues with your foundation, so ensure you’re working with a contractor who has extensive experience with this kind of basement.

Covering the dirt floor in your crawl space with a vapor barrier helps insulate the space and improve the air quality in your home. It protects your crawl space from pest infestations, excess moisture, and mold growth. It also makes the crawl space less dusty, which means there’s a lower chance of dust mites breeding and causing allergic reactions in your home.

Yes, professional installers use weather-resistant materials to protect the dish and cabling from environmental damage.

If you notice standing water under the deck after rainstorms, you may need a drainage system to efficiently move this water. You do not want standing water to rest against your foundation or against support posts for the deck, as this could cause significant structural problems over time. Make sure the area has proper grading, too.

While a standard gutter system is widely considered the most effective way to prevent water damage to your home's foundation, several alternatives are available. These options can be used on their own in certain climates or as supplementary protection.

Common alternatives include:

  • Rain Chains: These are decorative chains that hang from the roof's edge, guiding rainwater to the ground.

  • Drip Edges: These metal strips are installed at the edge of the roof to direct water away from the fascia. While often used with gutters, they can be paired with a ground-level solution but are typically not sufficient on their own.

  • Rain Dispersal Systems: These systems work by breaking up the heavy sheet of water flowing off the roof, dispersing it over a wider area.

  • French Drains: This ground-level system uses a perforated pipe in a gravel-filled trench to collect and redirect water runoff away from the house.

  • Drip Paths: Placed directly below the roofline, these paths made of concrete, stone, or other materials prevent soil erosion and guide water away.

It's important to note that some alternatives like rain chains and dispersal systems may not be adequate in regions with heavy rainfall because they don't divert water away from the foundation as effectively as a full gutter system. Ground-based solutions like French drains can be very effective but are often more expensive and can affect your landscaping and curb appeal. Many experts recommend installing a full gutter system for maximum protection and using alternatives as supplementary measures.
