"NOTE INCORRECT HEADING: I hired Aire Serv of Sumter to intall a Ductless Heat and Air system for my home. (I don't know how to change the heading) Here is my review: I was very impressed by their customer service, both before and after I signed a contract. Their specialist took the time to learn exactly what I wanted to do, and gave me choices. The day after I signed my contract for installation, that was scheduled for the next week, my window air unit started acting up, so when I called Josh, my Home Comfort Designer, he drove well over an hour round trip on a Friday evening to get one of their loaner window units, took out my unit, put in their unit, and got me back to comfort before my ductless system could be installed. David, the installer, managed to do all the work himself, and even cleared the brush away that he had not been warned about. He also helped me move a few things around. He went above and beyond the call of duty. I highly recommend Aire Serv of Sumter. I am very happy with my ductless system. I am very comfortable and it is so quiet, I can again hear the cats and the storms outside."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

While it's generally safe to stay in a home with a coolant leak if your home is properly ventilated, it's important to have a professional come out to assess the situation right away. You should evacuate your home if you notice any powerful fumes. Additionally, you should leave your home if you are experiencing headaches or dizziness.

Yes. Return air vents are responsible for gathering and pulling in the warmer air. Once they draw it in, your system conditions the air by removing the warmer molecules from it, allowing your air conditioner to dispense the cooler air back into your home. Not only does this create a more comfortable environment for you, but it also keeps your air conditioner from overworking, resulting in lower energy bills.

A blockage in the ductwork may prevent air from flowing through the vent. If some rooms in your home are very hot or cold and another isn't, that can be a sign that a vent is blocked. Another sign of a blockage is a buildup of dirt or dust around the vent. In either case, a duct installer or cleaning service can investigate the issue for you and recommend a course of action.

Yes, it's normal for air conditioners to leak tiny amounts of water due to condensation. Under normal circumstances, all excess moisture travels to the drain pan to be pumped through your system's drain line. You should call a technician to diagnose the issue if you're noticing frequent leaking or pooling. It's also important to investigate if your homeowners insurance can cover water damage.

Most units are designed only to cool the house down to 20 degrees less than the temperature outside. This means that if it’s 99 degrees Fahrenheit out and you’re trying to cool your home down to 65 degrees, you’ll notice your AC is struggling.

Lower the blinds on all your windows, turn on your ceiling fans, and keep the thermostat at a consistent temperature to help your AC do its job. Investing in an HVAC maintenance plan also helps because pros will come out to inspect and tune up your unit regularly, keeping it in optimal working condition.
