"The rep suggested several improvements including upgrading to a solar heating system. We are now in the process of installing a solar heating system. With government tax incentives over the next 2 years we will finance $15K. If I just keep paying what I was paying for my monthly power bill towards the solar panels and upgrades the payback is less that 7 years. After which, my electricity is free. System has a 30 year warranty. Looking forward to the installation and will provide feedback once it is installed and in operation."

Customers say: Quick response

"They where on time, polite punctual and worth every penny. I am recommending iwiredit to every one. I called them at 10.00 P.M. and some one was out in 30 minutes. Came out figured out what the issue was in less then an hour and gave me a quote with in that hour. I hired him on the spot. Next morning he was there with his helper (polite young man) hard at work. Fixed my issue which was major in one day and had the inspector to come out the following day. He even helped me out with temp power solution for my home till Duke Power could reconnect my house to the power line! Love these dudes and am thankful for their speedy and prompt work!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

The color of your cable will help you to identify its function. In the U.S., the National Electrical Code (NEC) designates the color code for electrical cables. “Hot” cables are black, red, and blue. In cases of higher voltage lines, orange might also be used to indicate a hot cable. White or gray indicates a neutral, and green or green with a yellow stripe indicates a ground.

No, sconces don’t have to be hardwired, but they can be for a more permanent solution. Sconces come in various styles, sizes, and finishes as well as types of installation. Plug-in wall sconces can be plugged into a nearby outlet, and battery-powered sconces can be mounted to the wall.

Before hiring an electrician, check out the contractor’s official website, read reviews, and look them up on your local Department of Labor’s website. If you’re hiring for a complex job, pay special attention to their level of expertise. Also, call up pros directly to ask about their insurance status, specifically liability insurance, and request customer references.

If your outlet is testing fine but keeps tripping, that’s a sign your GFCI outlet is working, but there’s a problem somewhere else. Try plugging in different devices and see if the outlet keeps tripping. If it’s not the appliance that’s causing the issue, it could be a problem in your wiring. Faulty wiring can be a source of electrical fires and other serious problems. We recommend arranging an inspection by an electrician if an outlet appears to be working but keeps tripping.

Baking soda is an effective fire reduction method. However, flour and baking powder are very dangerous around flames. Flour is flammable and it can also conduct electricity. The combination can cause serious injury from electrical shock and worsen the situation by adding fuel to the fire. Baking powder is also not an option as it's also highly flammable.
