Ashbusters Chimney Service of Charleston, SC is a local chimney services company operated by local chimney professionals that have been trained and certified on the principle of fire prevention. It doesn’t take long to come upon the devastation of fire up close and personal and we are determined to do whatever it takes to keep this from happening to our friends, our families and our communities. We understand that all fires are not preventable but we also know that when you do the necessary maintenance, you can rest assured that you have done everything in your power to prevent a fire in your home. The very act of taking action can and will prevent most fireplace and chimney mishaps. Clearance to combustibles is the most common reason home fires occur. It doesn’t matter if it’s in a chimney or a dryer; flammable materials near a heat source combined with oxygen are the perfect mix for disaster. Most homes today will have an electric or gas dryer plus a fireplace or wood stove of some kind. Just picture an open flame in the middle of your house and you might realize how important keeping it in check will be. Since 1985, Ashbusters Chimney Service has serviced over 35,000 chimneys

"I was worried that I may need to replace my gas log, but after he inspected and cleaned the gas log system, he had it working like new again. He took pictures of my chimney cap and cover, which confirmed my wish to replace the cap and cover."

"My chest freezer broke down and I did not want to buy a new one since I could not afford the same size. I reached out to appliance parts pro and they were confident that what I ordered would fix my problem. $200 in parts later and I now have a broken freezer on my porch and am still paying the loan to this terrible company. They just want you to order parts and try them because they know you can't return them. I hate this company with every fiber of my being and will make sure that anyone that has a broken appliance will not use them. To top it off, their site is so screwed up that it give you an error trying to log back in. I ended up having to create THREE different accounts because every time I went to place a new order, it would not let me login and it would not send a password reset email. DON'T GET RIPPED OFF."

Grill Repair questions, answered by experts

The placement of snow guards depends on the individual roof, but typically snow guards are placed between 12 and 18 inches from the eaves, though they can be placed as close as six inches and as far as 24 inches from the eaves. A roofing professional can assess the roof and potential snow loads to determine the best placement.

Yes, you can walk on a standing seam roof, but you should avoid stepping on the seams and instead walk on the flat portions. The seams are thin and provide less traction, and they don’t get direct support from the roof decking underneath, so they’re more likely to dent from added weight.

Sticky shoes help, but you shouldn't be walking on the steel roof— let the pros do that. it's dangerous enough to walk on asphalt shingled roofs which have quite a bit of texture. Stone coating adds a lot of grip, but it still doesn't lock your foot down, so if you absolutely have to be on the roof, make sure you’re secured in another way, like with the harness and rope.

Most standing seam metal roofs last between 50 and 80 years. Certain high-end metals like copper or zinc can last up to 100 years if well-maintained. For the best durability, choose a low-gauge (thick) roof in a metal that works with your climate. Some are susceptible to thermal expansion and aren’t the best choice for all climates.

When choosing a metal roof, consider not only the area of the roof but also the thickness of the panel, known as the gauge. Common roofing gauge sizes for metal roofs are 24-gauge and 26-gauge. The smaller the gauge size, the thicker the roof. Usually, a thicker gauge is ideal if your house is in an area that sees a lot of rain, snow, or hail, as it will be less likely to dent.
