"Ronnie was very professional, easy to work with, and the job was priced fairly. However, his crew removed screening in the soffits which we had installed to keep red squirrels out. They did not put it back so we had to pay someone to redo the job. They painted the deck the day after it rained. Less than a year later it is peeling. Also, the deck stain did not hold well and in some places is down to bare wood. I have contacted Ronnie three times and not heard back."

"Dan and his crew did a fantastic job. We were looking for our popcorn ceilings to be removed and painted, some minor wall repairs, and painting of all walls for our whole house. We got five quotes and Dan's was the most reasonable. Dan explained everything about the process and gave us updates as they worked through the house. They worked through weekends and finished in two weeks which is how long Dan anticipated it would take. The end price was as quoted. The crew cleaned up as they moved from room to room (popcorn removal is an extremely messy process). The house looks amazing and we are so happy that we chose Dan to do the job. Dan also did one wood panel room with a pickle stain and it turned out great! We would absolutely work with Dan on future projects."

Small jobs welcome

"They did a terrific job. Arrived promptly, covered everything before beginning to remove the wallpaper. Sanded and smooth the walls before painting so no bumps would show. When they were finished cleaned up the area. Would recommend them to friends."

"They did an incredible job replacing our deck; meticulous, reliable, neat and very creative with our gate. Andrew and his crew were a pleasure to deal with and most reasonably priced."

"First they videoed our roof. Showed where problems existed and explained how the would enhance or rain run off. When the began work they made sure our shrubs and decks were protected. The crew worked hard and efficient. My entire roof was striped and prepared for the new shingles in one day. They cleaned up at the end of each day and remove trash each day with a portable trash trailer."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Limewash and whitewash are two techniques used to give brick a light, matte finish, but they differ in composition, application, and permanence. The best choice depends on your aesthetic goals and the specific surface.

Composition

  • Limewash: A natural and environmentally friendly option made from limestone, water, and sometimes pigments. It is breathable and soaks into porous surfaces like brick.

  • Whitewash: Traditionally made from lime, water, chalk, and binders, but a similar look can be achieved with watered-down white paint. It is paint-based and sits on top of the surface.

Appearance and Finish

  • Limewash: Provides a natural, textured appearance that allows the brick's character to show through. It offers a more traditional finish.

  • Whitewash: Creates a softer, more opaque finish, often used for a rustic or shabby-chic style.

Application and Permanence

  • Limewash: Is semi-permanent and can be removed, making it a good choice if you might want to change the look in the future. It requires more skill to apply and cannot be used on previously painted brick.

  • Whitewash: Is a more permanent solution. It is more forgiving to apply and can be used on painted brick. However, because it sits on the surface, it can trap moisture.

Ultimately, if you want a breathable, natural, and reversible finish for unpainted brick, limewash is a great option. If you need a more permanent, opaque coating that can be applied over painted surfaces, whitewash is the better choice. Whitewashing may also be more economical, costing approximately $1.40 to $4.20 per square foot.

Yes, many repair services include repainting to match the color of the existing siding or walls. Most professionals offer this service to ensure the repaired area blends in seamlessly.

The opposite is actually true: Wood stains tend to appear lighter when they’re fully dry. However, stains may darken as they weather and oxidize with age. Stains might also darken on surfaces left in direct sunlight, as UV rays can break down pigment particles and cause them to darken over time.

Opt for an interior wood stain that is rated for your type of wood. Consider your personal style preferences as well as the overall use of the room when choosing a color. Remember, the color you see at the store may look different on your actual floors once applied. This is why if you have the chance, it’s helpful to test a few options on a scrap piece of wood in the room first. Once you narrow it down, you can test a small patch on an inconspicuous area in the room to see it on the actual floors.

Hangers are one way of attaching stair stringers to a deck. These metal hangers are usually adjustable, allowing you to find the ideal angle for a secure installation. They’re the best choice for installing longer staircases, such as one on a two-story deck, to reduce the load on the deck frame while keeping the stairs stable.
