"Last summer someone struck the front of my house with their vehicle, the damage was EXTENSIVE! We hired Barr Woodworks to replace our porch/deck! Mr. Barr quickly gave us a fair estimate and was able to get started on the job right away! Not only was the price very affordable and competitive (compared to other quotes) but he did an amazing job and finished three days ahead of schedule! I would absolutely hire them again!!!"

"These guys were so nice! and did an outstanding job! Marcial Vazquez the owner of the company gave me perfect recommendations for what kind of paint we needed to use, since we are going to be living in the house for the next 12 years.. He also let me keep adding things to have painted, like the vents I wanted painted at the last minute... they painted over 2000 sq. ft. .I love it! they were so neat and clean, and did such a great job! my deck and house outside looks so nice and clean now! I would definitely recommend these guys!!! You need to call them for your estimate!!!!"

"Beds & Such is fantastic. We have furniture we bought from them. They were great about bringing in, setting it up. I'd give them 5 stars. They were honest. They were courteous. They were the nicest people of all the places I went in Lexington and Columbia, South Carolina local furniture. These people were the most helpful, honest, pleasant people to work with. That's why I had all the furniture from them because everywhere else I went in the area is just they were rude."

"Our home has been transformed! We are so excited about the new cabinets, new granite counters, a beautiful front porch, a new back deck, new floors, new windows, new paint, and did I mention granite counters :) A dream come true for our family and I respect someone who is willing to help someone save money instead of over charging them."

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

Yes, Corian® and other solid surface countertops can be cut with standard woodworking tools like a circular saw or a jigsaw, but using the correct blade is crucial for the best results.

The recommended blade is a tungsten carbide-tipped blade, often called a solid-surface planer or triple chip grind blade. This type of blade is hard enough to cut through the material effectively. For a jigsaw, a fine-tooth down-cutting blade should be used.

It is important to note that a diamond blade is not necessary. Diamond blades are designed for harder materials like natural stone, concrete, or brick, and Corian is not a natural stone.

Using blades designed for wood is not recommended as they can cause microfractures that weaken the countertop's edges. While a tungsten carbide blade provides a much cleaner cut, the resulting edge will still be rough and must be sanded and smoothed to prevent microfractures from developing over time.

Homeowners insurance may cover damaged floor joists, depending on your policy. Insurance typically covers issues from storms, fires, or water damage from burst pipes. However, don't expect your insurance company to cover damage from wear and tear, poor maintenance, or termites.

General contractors use subcontractors to complete specific parts of a construction project. For example, a general contractor might have construction experience but need a subcontractor to install plumbing lines in a new home.

There are several mistakes you should avoid when using butcher block countertops. Don't place hot pots or pans directly on the surface, as this can crack the wood and cause permanent damage. Avoid leaving wet items sitting on the surface, and wipe up liquids as soon as possible to avoid stains.

It is not recommended to cut or drill into LVL (laminated veneer lumber) beams. As major structural components of a home, their composite structure can be compromised by alterations, which can weaken them and lead to cracking over time. If you must make modifications to an LVL beam, it is crucial to consult a structural engineer or general contractor first. A professional can advise on whether it's safe and provide specifics on the appropriate bit size, depth, and directionality for any necessary drilling.
