"Garfield is a professional who is very knowledgeable about residential solar programs. With his skills I was able to get qualified for the federal incentives that required no up front cost solar installations. Now I'm in process of getting solar on my second home also. I would definitely recommend Garfield."

"I called several plumbers to connect the spigot and piping into my house. The quotes I was receiving were outrageous. I called Morels plumbing before I decided to give up. Service was very prompt and courteous. Hired him on spot and he started work right way. Project took a hour in total and he then explained everything he did. As a single female home owner for my first time at hiring someone he was extremely fair, explained everything he did and was in and out I know time. I would hire him again for other plumbing projects. If anyone needs work done I would very much recommend him."

Solar Panels questions, answered by experts

The average homeowner needs around 22 solar panels, but the exact number depends on your monthly energy consumption. Your solar professional should size your array to offset your consumption, meaning you’ll need fewer panels if you use below-average amounts of electricity, or more than 22 if you use above-average amounts of electricity. The number of panels also depends on the output of each panel. The average is around 400 watts, but you might need more panels if you install less capable equipment. Since there are so many variables, you should have a professional size your system.

Yes, you should tell your home insurance company about your solar panels. Even if you believe they’re covered by your existing policy, installing a solar panel system is a significant change to your home. This can affect coverage and premiums. By discussing your new solar panel installation with your insurance provider, you can be sure you have enough coverage and that the policy completely covers the panels against damage.

It’s possible that installing solar panels can lead to mold on the roof. The panels themselves are not the issue. Problems caused by improper installation—such as roof leaks and mounts that aren’t sealed properly—can cause mold. Another potential cause of mold is debris accumulation under panels, which can trap moisture. If you live somewhere with extreme snow, rain, or hail, your home could be more prone to mold.

The actual time it takes to construct the solar farm is relatively short, taking between 2 and 4 months on average. That timeline is dependent on site conditions, crew size, and the overall size of the solar farm.

However, the time it takes to get the ball rolling is significantly longer, ranging from 3 to 5 years. With a project of this scale, you’ll need to obtain all of the proper permits and approvals to start breaking ground, and depending on your location, that could be an extended process.

On average, a typical fridge uses 115 kWh per month. With eight hours of sunlight per day, a 100-watt solar panel can produce 30 kWh per month. This means you’ll need at least four dedicated panels to power the refrigerator with solar energy. Consult with a solar power specialist to get a more accurate estimate.
