Small jobs welcome

"We had a leaky roof and needed drywall repair. Our roof was repaired, but as soon as the Patch Boys installer (Ty) removed the old drywall, he noticed the roof was still leaking. Ty could ve easily kept working and let us waste our money. Instead, he let us know so we could get the roof taken care of (again.) Patch Boys could ve taken our money and with the leaky roof, we would ve had to have the drywall repaired again. We appreciate the honesty of Jerry (owner) and Ty. Both were polite and professional. Ty takes great pride in his work and cleans up when he s done. We would use Patch Boys again and recommend them to family and friends."

"Our powder room walls had some damage underneath wallpaper. We needed the drywall removed, replaced and spackled as well as two medicine cabinet holes filled in. They did such an amazing job! And I am picky with work."

Customers say: Quick response

"We could not be happier with DiCarlo Construction Services. They were reasonable and very efficient. It was such a joy to work with Scott! We got his name from HomeAdvisor and are so glad that we did. He was quick to come give us an estimate even though we had issues that kept us from having the work done for almost a year! He did not bug us but kept in touch with us occasionally until we were ready. We needed drywall on two floors of an entire old house. To say it had some issues was an understatement but Scott and his crew did a phenomenal job and in record time! My husband does a magnificent job on drywall himself but as we are getting older did not want to tackle this job ourselves. So needless to say he knows a good drywall job when he sees one and he was not dissatisfied or disappointed in the least. We highly recommend DiCarlo Construction and HomeAdvisor!"

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Although they have similar applications, spackle and joint compound are not the same. Their primary differences lie in their composition, consistency, and ideal use cases.

Spackle is composed of gypsum and binding agents, making it thicker than joint compound. It dries quickly and is easy to sand, which makes it ideal for small wall repair projects like filling nail holes or patching minor damage.

Joint compound, also known as drywall mud, consists of limestone and gypsum. It is primarily used for large-scale projects, such as taping and finishing the seams on newly installed drywall. It tends to shrink more than spackle and can be more difficult to spread.

While both products can be used to fill small depressions and cracks, spackle cannot replace joint compound for taping and mudding new drywall. Conversely, you can often use joint compound for small patching jobs typically done with spackle.

Drywall tape is made of paper, while drywall mesh is made of fiberglass or metal. Drywall mesh patches are suitable for repairing small holes in drywall, while paper drywall tape holds a crease better for corners. You need joint compound to adhere drywall tape to the wall, while mesh patches may be self-adhesive.

The best tool for cutting a hole in drywall is a drywall saw. Its serrated blade and ergonomic design make it efficient for both straight cuts and more intricate shapes, ensuring clean and precise results in various drywall cutting applications.

Deciding whether to repair or replace drywall can be tricky, but your top considerations should be the extent of the damage and what caused the damage. For instance, if you need to repair a small hole caused by a doorknob that hit the wall, you can safely patch it without a second thought. However, if you have significant drywall damage caused by water damage, it’s best to thoroughly remove the drywall to inspect and repair the pipes behind it before replacing it.

You can technically just paint over hairline cracks in plaster since these cracks are often harmless, but this will mostly be a waste of paint. Paint will only hide the hairline crack for a few months before it shows up again. The best solution is to repair the crack with flexible filler or joint compound before repainting.
