In most cases, you do not need to put padding or underlayment under carpet tiles. Unlike traditional carpet, which requires a separate pad, carpet tiles are designed to be installed directly onto a firm subfloor like plywood, concrete, or tile. Many carpet tiles come with a built-in underlay and attach with peel-and-stick adhesive, double-sided carpet tape, or glue. For a more comfortable, cushioned feel, especially in residential settings, you can opt for padded carpet tiles that have a thicker underlay attached. While it's generally not recommended to install a separate pad, a compact underlayment might be used in some situations, though this typically requires professional installation. Few home upgrades add resale value above their installation cost, including terrazzo floors. However, they are still a good option if you like the look. Bamboo flooring has several disadvantages to consider. It is highly susceptible to moisture and humidity due to its absorbent nature, which can cause it to warp, buckle, swell, expand, or contract, potentially creating gaps in the floor. For this reason, it is best suited for dry climates. Bamboo can also scratch and dent easily. Aesthetically, it offers fewer color and style options compared to wood, laminate, or vinyl flooring, which can be a limitation for some homeowners. Additionally, bamboo flooring may discolor over time, especially in high-traffic areas.
