"I was very pleased with my finished products I had waited a very long time to have a bathroom installed on the first floor. The problem was that I had very little space where it could be placed. I worked with Jake from West Penn who designed a perfect small bathroom for me when others said it couldn't be done......and it turned out to be not only modern and functional but BEAUTIFUL too! They also remodeled the adjacent laundry room and entrance and added a closet that, when completed, blended in perfectly with the room decor. I was very pleased with all that was done. Jake was easy to work with and provided helpful suggestions that I appreciated and used. The workers were super -- personable, skilled and professional, and punctual as well. As is often the case when working on an old house, there were a few unexpected problems that needed addressed before work on the bathroom could continue. I was both grateful and impressed that when the job was finished I was not charged a single penney above the price that I was quoted at the beginning. I would definitely recommend this company to anyone. In fact I have done just that and they are now contracted to do several projects for my daughter. Thank you so much Jake and staff!"

Egress Windows questions, answered by experts

An egress window is similar to a regular window. However, this type of window opens fully to allow people to escape the home or rescue personnel to enter the home if an emergency occurs. Egress windows are required in all finished basements before they can be considered a living space.

Installing a window well costs anywhere from $500 to $1,500 or more. Adding an egress window and well runs about $3,900 on average. Adding a window well cover to the project can add $200 to $700. A well cover helps protect your egress windows from weather damage and keeps them clear of dirt, debris, and wildlife.

Costs depend on window size, type, material, and labor. Custom shapes or sizes typically incur higher expenses; full installation includes removing old windows.

Adding windows to a house is expensive. Budget roughly $5,800 to add a single window, and double or triple that to add two or three. In some cases, adding a single window can exceed $20,000, depending on the type of exterior wall, the size of the window, the type of window, local permit costs, and other factors.

You install a window well 8 to 12 inches deeper than the base of the window sill. After filling the well with drainage rock, the well should sit 3 inches below the bottom of the window. The top of the window well should also be at least 3 inches higher than the surface-grade ground. The window well should be about 6 inches wider than the window opening.
