"First I assumed I was dealing with a Moral and honest company that would not take advantage of me and give me a honest deal for the money, this horrible experience was mostly my fault, I was having a new heating system install by another contractor, I was preoccupied with kid in the hospital with Sickel Cell disease, I was going through a divorce, opening up a restaurant and moving back into my childhood home and I was swamp mentally, I should've held off on the kitchen remodel but I needed to move in due to the divorce, First I ignored so many red flags, the first being the salesman, when he showed up he was very wireary, through conversation I spoke of my immediate need to get the kitchen remodeled and he spoke of how he like the strippers and was in a hostile relationship with a stripper and so on, we started talking about the project and I told him that I seen and was going to get my own appliances, well the cost of the project included the appliances but it was never discounted off the price, i didn't realize this at the moment when he wrote up the contract, he also asked what color did I want the kitchen painted, I wasn't sure yet i didn't think that far plus we haven't picked out the cabinetry or countertops yet so I wasn't sure of the color scheme just yet. We picked out the cabinets and counter tops also I needed a new floor with the sink moved to the other wall outlooking my deck, we also added in 4 recessed lights, the stove I had was brand new and did not need replacing (also not discounted off contract, I gave them a $5,000 deposit that Nite (BIG MISTAKE) in hindsight, a week mor so later the lead contractor showed up with an assistant that looked like he was straight from Kensington (another red flag I ignored) they began demolishing the floor and piled the debris on my front porch (no problem at this point) and they began the work, I was satisfied with what I was seeing and a couple days in I was asked for another portion of the money ($5,000) which I gave, along the way they encountered an electrical issue that I was aware of and before we could connect the garbage disposal, stove, hood and other things this electrical issue needed to be addressed and this issue was throughout the house, they gave me a price of $7,000 to rectify the problem, I thought a little pricy but my kitchen was torn up and i didn't have the time to get independent electricians in here to get new quote. so they bin re-wiring the house and I gave them $7,000, at the same time they hit me with an request for $10.000.00 more on the initial contract and I stupidly gave it to them, not worrying because they never missed a day the work appeared professional and with so much going on in my life I just wasn't thinking about this project I felt it was being handled and going well, when almost finished the lead contractor asked me to sign a statement that I was satisfied and asked for final payment, I signed the paper although they were not finished and I paid them, I had no apprehension that they wouldn't show back up at this point, long story, they never cleaned out the saw dust and debris out of any cabinets tops or inside, they didn't install enough backsplash where the refrigerator was to go and when I got my refrigerator the backsplash was short, they never removed the debris off the porch, I had to discard myself, I never got appliances stove, hood, refrigerator, dishwasher, after all was said and done I goy kitchen cabinets, countertops, backslash, new kitchen floor, 4 recessed light, No paint job, electrical never finished at all, I'm still running extension cords throughout the house. all in all I spent $37,000.00 for probably in total was a $10-$12,000 job. I held back some of the contractors equipment until he come finish the electrical but I guess the amount of work he would have to preform outweighed the cost of his equipment and its still in my basement this very day. I assumed I was dealing with a moral reputable company that would point out advantages and advise me "Hey you're paying for appliances in the contract don't go buy appliance" Hey you're paying the financed rate but you're paying cash" (which is a substantial discount) My Advice: (1) Don't use this company PERIOD (2) but if you do, have someone with you 2 heads are better than one (3) don't sign contract or give any money until a couple days pass where you can think about it (4) get 2nd quote from another company I should've also contacted Artie Clear remodelers (5) don't sign satisfaction papers until you're sure they've finished and removed all debris from your house (6) don't be in a rush to get your project done these guys will get you and take advantage My job was about 8 months ago, my kitchen is 8 X 20 very small kitchen and i spent $37,000, I could've bought a entire home or a brand new car, every time I walk in my kitchen i kick myself in the a** but this is what lessons are made of, don't get the same lesson I got "there is no education in the 2nd kick of a mule" these guys are horrible and scammers"

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Landscape timbers can last 10 to 20 years in the ground when installed correctly. Pressure-treated timbers will last longer than non-treated ones, as pressure treatment makes the wood more rot-resistant. Wood exposed to high moisture levels or extreme temperature and weather fluctuations may not last as long as wood in drier areas with more consistent weather.

Composite decking may never warp, or it may warp quickly. Several factors can influence the rate of warping, including the material's quality, installation method, and installation location. Generally speaking, high-quality materials that have been installed properly are drastically less prone to warping.

Rescreening your porch can take a few hours to a whole day, depending on the size of the enclosure and the amount of screen that needs replacing. If you decide to have a professional handle the rescreening, be sure to get a timeline and a cost estimate so you know how long you’ll be without the screened-in space.

How long deck boards last largely depends on the type of wood and if it's treated or not. Untreated boards last anywhere from ten to 30 years, assuming proper care and maintenance. Treated boards can last up to 50 years. Composite boards also tend to last longer than pure wood boards.

Not all porch columns are load-bearing, though they can be. Some porch columns are simply decorative. There are ways to identify a load-bearing column, like looking for visible seams and a foundation. Also, check to see if the column directly enters the ground. In some porch installations, a contractor will excavate a hole to install a column into the earth along with a buried cement base for stability.
