"Dirt Werx is lead by professionals who know their business. They did the job quickly and were able to access issues they ran into and adjust accordingly. They kept constant communication and were very clear with what direction the project needed to take. When they were done they cleaned up the area to the point that one would not know they were ever there!"

"They came when nobody else could. The wife and I were stuck in the house with 30 inches of snow blocking our driveway. One call and I had professional and friendly service in under 2 hrs. A true pleasure to deal with. I highly recommend this company."

"Would only communicate via email. Never returned my calls. Scheduling was a problem. Wanted to be present for the review/quoting of the driveway as there were cracks that I thought needed filling. Tried to call after first application of sealant. The edges were not covered. The second application was better, but there are still a few spots that are thinly covered. The areas with the small cracks were coated thicker and appear okay. Sealant is supposed to last 3 years. Time will tell if the sealant holds up as well as the stuff sold at Home Depot."

Land Clearing Services questions, answered by experts

Pros will assess your soil type, property geography, and rain patterns for optimal slope.

If you’re planning to dig on your property, you’ll need to check for underground utility lines. Call the national call-before-you-dig 811 number. Once connected to an operator, you can schedule a site visit to mark underground lines. This way, you won’t accidentally dig into pipes and can cause major (read: costly) issues.

Permit requirements to clear land vary by municipality, so whether or not you need permits depends on where you live and what you’re removing from the land. Some building departments will require permits for any underground work or excavation, meaning grinding down tree stumps on your property would require permits. Others mandate individual permits for each tree you remove. You can contact your local building department or a land-clearing specialist near you to see if permits are necessary for your job.

Measure from zero on a measuring tape by placing the metal hook right up against the edge of what you need to measure. You can also latch the hook onto an open edge—of, say, a table—to accurately measure as well. If you begin at the 1-inch mark, you'll need to subtract an inch from your total.

To hire a land surveyor, you need to start by searching online for reputable professionals in your area. Here are a few steps to take when making a shortlist:

  • Browse land surveyor service website

  • Check credentials

  • Read customer reviews

  • Find their contact information

  • Call or email to inquire about more information

  • Ask how far they travel, if you’re some distance away

  • Find out how they charge for their services

  • Ask about schedule and turnaround times

  • Repeat these steps for one to two other services and compare pricing
