Riley & Sons Moving & Storage

I've hired these folks twice for local moves. The most recent was a substantial haul requiring two trucks and a crew of six. It took some time to get into their schedule (the current labor shortage didn't help). But once they showed up, I had another great move. The crew is cordial and helpful. They certainly work hard with no wasted time. Everything was moved without any issues. And, once again, they pretty much nailed the quote. Unlike my first move with them when their actual came within an uncanny $5 of their estimate, they were about $180 off -- or roughly 4%. I consider that to be tremendous. In the past, I've had movers bump the actual by 25% or more. So I have high confidence in these folks and would certainly hire them again. Highly recommended.

The move couldn’t have gone smoother! This was emotionally hard move for me. Riley and Sons made the entire experience a pleasure. From the moment they come out to give an estimate right through completion of the move itself they were professional, polite, courteous, neat, thorough, careful and hard working. Net net: Riley & Sons has been an excellent mover to deal with two times now. While our need to move is infrequent, if and when we need to move, without question, we will go first to Riley & Sons. More Detail: This is really a review of two moving experiences with Riley & Sons: One back in 2014 (moving from one house outside of Philadelphia to another to another house) and one this month (moving our daughter from a house in New Jersey to an apartment in Philadelphia). The move in 2014 became a nightmare due to a steep driveway at our new house suddenly covered in tons of wet leaves overnight and this month's move which was quick and efficient. In both instances the crew that Riley & Sons sent were polite, helpful, efficient, and focused on getting the job done in a timely manner. In both instances they were clear about the policies they had to operate under and yet were as accommodating, creative, and helpful as they could be to get the move successfully done within those policies. In both instances, Riley & Sons did a superb job in communicating with us before and during the moves. In the move this month, nothing was broken. In the move in 2014, one thing was broken (which considering how much had to be moved and the conditions was exceptional). For the move this month, Riley & Sons quoted 4 hours for a 3 person crew, which is their minimum. The price was fair for for the time involved. Yet when the job was done, Riley & Sons charged actuals, which turned out to be about 2.5 hours, leading to a very pleasant surprise for our daughter who was thrilled. In addition, we reached out to Riley & Sons to help support the move only 3 weeks in advance with very little flexibility. Every other mover couldn't make it happen. Michele at Riley & Sons was honest and said it would be challenging, "but we'll try really hard to find a way ... just give me a little time." Based on our past experience, we trusted, and they delivered. They found a way, the timing was perfect, and, as noted above, the move went flawlessly. For the move in 2014, which I should have written about LONG ago, the loading of the house in Bucks county went fine, with no surprises. The issue was when we got to the house in Chester county. What had been a leaf free driveway the day before due to a cold rain had become absolutely covered in leaves. To make matters worse, it has a 11-12% angle to it. Try as they might, there was no way they could get the trucks up the hill. For awhile, they had to park at the bottom of the hill and shuttle everything up on hand trucks and by hand - not easy with the steepness of the driveway. Ultimately, to not block traffic, they had to move the trucks to a local parking lot and bring in two minivans along with two extra crew members to shuttle things up the driveway and to the house. The job ran long and wasn't fun. And yet, never once, was any member of the moving crew anything but polite, friendly, and helpful. They never complained. They just focused on getting the job done. In the end, the job came in higher than the quote, but it also ended up running 3 hours longer than anticipated with more trucks and crew. The additional charges came to a little over $1,000, which when considering the size of the entire crew and the extra effort required was amazing. Riley & Sons does a great job, and we cannot recommend them highly enough as movers.

With Riley and Sons moving , you are in good hands! We were extremely pleased with the service provided by the Riley team. Bill Rusden, who was running the show, provided a prompt and accurate estimate (actual cost came out to be less than that). Bill also assigned a very professional team, which was led by another great guy (also named Bill). Moving team was extremely professional and efficient. I am definitely recommending Riley and Sons moving to my friends and family.

The guys were great. Very professional and took great care of all our stuff and took time to discuss what we had and where to put it in the new house. Would highly recommend them to anyone. Worked at a great pace and rarely stopped.

Flawless. We had a big house and, even though we were downsizing, it was a lot of stuff to move: Riley sent two trucks and a crew of eight movers. Before the move, I had pressed Riley for as "real" a quote as they could provide. (Some movers will give you a lowball quote and then give you a real number after your goods are loaded onto their truck.) He gave me a written quote that showed how it was calculated, Then, the crew showed up and worked for ten hours moving us out of the old house and into the new one. Nothing got broken, the crew was good natured and did everything we asked. When all was done the final invoice was -- believe it or not -- within $5.00 of their quote. I think it was about $3.60 over or very near that. That's an amazing performance. I would certainly hire these folks again.

Absolutely Wonderful! We contacted Riley and Sons to handle our move, and met with Kevin Riley early September 2019 to go over the details. Kevin went over all the details, and gave us an estimate on cost. We had used Riley and Sons back in 2016, and they always do an outstanding job! They are highly professional, courteous and competent, helpful and extremely knowledgeable. On our move date, Bill K, George R, and Grant L. came out right on time, loaded all our items securely and efficiently, and did a magnificent job in unpacking and placing our many items in our new home! I highly recommend Riley and Son's; they made our move as Stress Free , and were a pleasure to work with!

Excellent. The crew was professional and jovial they had a good rapport with each other which made for a good work environment for them and my family. They worked efficiently and quickly while taking great care of our belongings and the walls in both houses. The office communications with Riley & Sons was equally pleasant they were prompt in answering our questions and very easy to deal with. I would definitely recommend them to anyone.

Steve, Jeremy and Jerry arrived at 7:30 am the morning of our move ready to work and never stopped until the job was completed. They were the nicest guys ever and treated our furniture as if it was theirs. They could not have been more accommodating. Their customer service was outstanding and they completed the job in record time. I would absolutely recommend Riley & Sons to friends and family needing a moving company.

Excellent. Efficient. I was worried that, since they charge by the hour, their pace would be lackadaisical. Just the opposite-these guys hustled. The crew all had good attitudes, they sang a lot, made jokes-really worked well together. Nothing broken or damaged. A really surprisingly good experience.

The 2 movers, John and Dylan were professional and friendly, and I don't think either of them stopped for a minute between loading and unloading.

It went great. Crew arrived on-time, took care wrapping antique furniture and placing on the truck, carefully placed the furniture in its new home. Price was below estimate. They are reliable, trustworthy and charge a fair price. (We used them again afterwards.)

OUTSTANDING !!! The company was WONDERFUL to work with because of the very attentive employees. Steve, Jorge, Dylan, and Bill and Michael were very respectful and likeable guys. NOTHING was broke and they were quick. They are a full asset to the company.

It went very well. The men knew what to do and how to do it. They were careful and courteous. A successful transfer of an old 1946 bedroom set to my house, along with several other pieces. I was so glad that nothing was damaged in any way.

I was so impressed by this company, I had to review it. The crew showed up on time, they were all polite, got right to work and constantly communicated with me as the job was getting done. I have had so many moving nightmares and from start to beginning, Riley and Sons were fantastic. I highly recommend them !

Wonderful! They helped make our move as stress free as possible, from start to finish! Their staff is very professional, courteous, skilled and knowledgeable. Tom came out and went over all the details, estimated costs,etc. And the day of the move went great; three of their staff moved all our items quickly and carefully. I highly recommend them, and I plan to hire them again for our next move.

I had hoped this would be a better review because it started with so much promise. All was well except they left us with a grandfather's clock that worked when they picked it up and didn't when they left. When I complained, they pointed to the legal mumbo jumbo and said they weren't responsible for electronic or exercise equipment. A grandfather's clock is electronic or exercise equipment? Not mine! They said that the clock sustained no physical damage. Well, not to the wood, but the thing didn't work. I had it repaired and was told that something had gotten out of balance and the cost to fix was $85. I sent them the bill which showed the damage. They said they weren't responsible because a clock expert they took it to said this kind of damage happens all the time. My clock has survived four previous moves, including to Europe and back, and back and forth to storage, and always worked well. Bottom line: the crew was professional, showed up on time, and was pleasant to deal with. But if you have some kind of issue after the move, beware. For a lousy 85 bucks, I am compelled to give them less than a stellar rating.

Nothing but good things to say- entire process was handled professionally, courteously, and at a fair price by today's standards. I contacted three companies. RIley was priced in the middle of the range. I moved from a large apartment to a studio in a nearby suburb. I had an additional drop off of a few items to my brother's nearby residence as well. From the initial contact by phone (spoke with Michele) to the last, (had three men, Bill was the lead. All three were very pleasant and accommodating.) I had more furniture than the small studio could handle. But with a little ingenuity and Bill's determination, we got it all in. The entire move took two hours longer than estimated. But I had several items that needed dismantling or special handling, which took extra time, plus travel delay. I have moved many times, long distance and local. This was as pleasant a moving experience as I have ever had. I highly recommend them.

Crews were on time and very professional. Was able to communicate via email and phone. Responses to questions were always quick, clear, and accurate. Very competitive rates. They came highly recommended by the contractor that did the work on my home to help with the sale. There are so many things to do and to worry about when moving, they were not one of them. Would definitely hire again.

I cannot recommend Riley and Sons Moving enough. When we initially contacted them, Kevin, one of the owners came out to provide his estimate. Since we planned on packing up everything ourselves ahead of time, Kevin did a good job explaining what we could do to keep costs down and facilitate the move on our end. They obtained all the city permits needed for parking their truck, which helped us out a lot. On the day of the move, the crew showed up on time and got straight to work, they loaded up everything we had prepared and guided us through the packaging of our larger artwork pieces, furniture etc. They were great! We found a few last-minute boxes and chairs in our garage and even though they were about to leave, they made sure to load every last thing. We had to store our belongings overnight, so they loaded up a large truck and took off. Upon arrival at our new place on the following afternoon, the same crew showed up and got straight to work. Our original place was on one floor in an elevator building. Our new place has lots of stairs, but the team took the new challenge in stride. They emptied everything quickly and carefully. With a significant amount of fragile items, nothing arrived damaged - not one single thing! Even our plants and large bulky decorative objects made it in one piece. I couldn't believe it. From the initial visit and hire to the actual move, we had to switch dates a couple of times (due to the closings on both the place we sold and the one we bought) so the original estimate change a few times. In the end, the move was less (yes LESS!) than we thought. So, not only did we get a great service, we had some money returned. Riley and Sons processed the refund quickly and we received it the following week. I saw the various reviews here on Anglie's List and decided to use Riley and Sons. I am very happy we did and will definitely recommend to anyone who asks. Thanks again for making one of life's most stressful events (moving), much easier!
