However, spray foam insulating an existing wall after the drywall is in place isn’t possible unless you remove most of the drywall.

As long as your existing insulation isn’t compromised, you can add new insulation directly over them. Inspect your insulation thoroughly and make any minor repairs. Spray foam insulation doesn’t do well around heat sources.
