"This was one of the best experiences I’ve had with a contractor. We bought a house that needed significant work. I had several contractors in the house at the same time and they all worked well around each other. Redemption flooring owner is an honest and amazing human being. We got to know each other a bit over the course of the time it took to put hardwood floors down and later tile floors. Great personality, and just an all around great human being. Prices were reasonable and the work was emasculate !! Our floors loook fantastic!"

"Prompt and professional estimate.  Work began on schedule.  Three different workers at different times.  I was asked to order tile, vanity top, and light/fan.  There were errors in all 3. These caused considerable delay.  In retrospect, I wish one contractor had ordered all 3 and taken responsibility for any errors so I wouldn't have had all the anxiety around this.  However, installer was excellent problem solver, and I was happy with the final results.  Quality of the work was high.  Workers and managers were likable and professional.  Some delay with final details and wrapping up the loose ends.  I am happy with the results ,but the process could have been smoother with one person working full-time on the whole project.  I have used Handyman Matters before and will definitely use them again on smaller projects.  They do good work!

"Very well! I love all my flooring, the luxury vinyl plank, and the ceramic tile installation. Dan was great with every part of the process, from selecting the LVP to correcting minor issues promptly. I would hire his company again."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

You cannot tile directly over hot mop waterproofing because tile requires a smooth, solid surface to adhere properly. Additionally, the shower bed pan needs to be raised and sloped toward the drain to prevent water from pooling. However, you can hot mop and apply a sloped mortar bed over the top (to which the tile can then be adhered).

Tile countertops can be an excellent and budget-friendly option for a kitchen, provided they are installed correctly. It's important to choose tiles, such as ceramic, that are heat-, water-, and scratch-resistant. When the grout is properly sealed, it will resist stains, making the surface easy to clean. Tile is also considered a sustainable material. For a cohesive kitchen design and added protection, you can pair a tile countertop with a matching tile backsplash.

When choosing between porcelain and ceramic tile, the best option depends on your specific needs, budget, and project application. Porcelain tile is generally more durable, denser, and harder than ceramic, making it a good choice for busy, high-traffic areas. It also offers superior moisture resistance, making it ideal for moisture-retaining spaces. However, porcelain is typically more expensive, and its hardness can make it brittle, potentially causing it to crack if a heavy object is dropped on it. In contrast, ceramic tile is a more budget-friendly option with lower material and installation costs. It is softer and easier to work with, making it a great choice for DIY projects. While not as durable as porcelain, ceramic is still a quality material suitable for many home applications, particularly small, decorative projects.

You can attach tiles to a wall using thin-set mortar. You’ll also need a notched trowel to create grooves within the adhesive so it flattens completely when pressed in and securely holds the wall tiles. Finally, you’ll need grout to smooth the gaps between the tiles and, ideally, a grout sealer to prevent mold. While it sounds simple enough, proper planning and execution are crucial, so carefully review the steps in this guide or hire a pro tile installer to complete this project.

The easiest tile size to install is large tiles, and they’re easier to install than small tiles—the job is faster and simpler when there’s less placing, adhering, and grouting to do. However, when tiles get really big, they’re more difficult to handle, cut, and fit. Standard floor tile sizes are 12-by-12 inches, 18-by-18 inches, and 12-by-24 inches.
