Co-owners Tim Kiefer and Jim Randall bring over 38 years of experience in the building and remodeling business as owners, foremen, production manager, estimating and sales, and design and administrative positions. Let us bring our experience, knowledge, multi-year award winning craftsmanship and professionalism into your home as construction company owners and staff that pride ourselves on integrity, treating your home or place of business as if it were our own. Our goal: Raving Fans! Winner of the Binghamton Press and Sun Bulletin's Reader's Choice Award for Best Home Improvement Contractor for 2016. Follow us on Facebook! Additional phone - (607) 321-1631.

"We hired Kiefer Randall (KR) to do a remodel in our basement, which we were told by owner Tim Kiefer would take 3 weeks. The estimate was high, but we went with it, on the promise of high quality work and high standards and hoping that by hiring out, we would gain freedom from worry and hassle on this project. We paid KR over 90% of a project that cost as much as (or more than) a full kitchen remodel. Tim Kiefer was in our home nearly daily supervising this project, yet the work that was completed was sub-par and we are now in the position to do the work ourselves and/or to hire contractors to fix and finish the work. He told us, before and when signing the contract that we would get daily updates from him or his team, yet we had to continually reach out to him to get updates or to bring up concerns. We were seriously disappointed in this company for the following reasons: The work that they did was not completed to a professional standard. Examples: Excessive and noted pockmarks in drywall on finished, painted walls. Walls that have visible tape marks and cracks. Walls that were literally painted without using lighting. Both glossy and matte paint were used on trim work. No attention to dust/dirt remediation until we insisted about 9 weeks into the project and even then it was minimal. Tim dropped the ball on several items that required coordination for the project (that’s why we were paying the high price), then blamed us for the issues. At 14 weeks we summarized in an email the issues we had raised with him (and added a few additional concerns). He responded with the following: “I no longer feel that our professional relationship should continue due to a breakdown in good faith and trust, and that we should part ways now before the relationship deteriorates further.” He attached a final bill with this message (for the last 10%), for unfinished work! Since KR left about 3 months ago, the bathroom in the project area flooded and we had to tear up the brand new flooring. We discovered that KR, instead of getting the correct parts to fit our toilet, used caulk to try to make it fit, resulting in a slow leak that built up over time! We reached out to KR informing them about this issue, and they didn’t respond at all. Not worth the money or the hassle!"

Marble is the largest fabricator of granite countertops, marble countertops, jacuzzi and fireplace surrounds, and other stone surfaces on the East Coast. We fabricate and install granite countertops in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania

"They first messed up on the initial taping. I was there for three hours since they were shortstaffed, but that wasn’t a problem, I wanted to make sure everything was right. Also, make sure you familiarize yourself with the price tiers they offer bc they won’t tell you unless you ASK. I came for one granite and it was hideous upon inspection, so I spent 30 min walking around until I found something I loved. At no time did they let me know that what I chose was from the highest price tier (when I originally came in to look at something from the second highest price tier. There was over a $2,000 difference that they only made me aware of a few days later when they sent me a new estimate. While out in the yard the sales person made good conversation but went through two rolls of masking tape channeling his inner NBA star in between taping the slab by crumpling wads of it and “free throwing” them in between surrounding slab groupings. Because of this, instead of going inside to get a third roll of tape we decided to call it a day since it was 545 and we were both sweaty and tired. He said he would cool off and finish up, but he did not. A different person finished up the taping. Then a manager called me to ask if I could confirm the tapings before cutting. To my surprise The halfway taped kitchen counter transformed into another bathroom vanity. I was super surprised that three people didn’t double check the work and it was sent out to the customer like this when the plans clearly state what is needed and if they just looked at the plans they would see that a piece was missing and that there was only one bathroom vanity ordered. Luckily I didn’t have to go back in to re-tape. For installation, I did not get a time of arrival until 4pm the day before. They did not call when they were on their way. They came 45 minutes early and I was not on location. Then comes the next surprise: supports are needed for both the kitchen and bathroom. The template guy did NOT tell us that was needed at time of measurements. We would’ve obviously installed them prior if we knew. According to one of the install guys, “this is has been happening a lot lately, and it makes us look like ********”, which is quite true! They are the ones whom get yelled at when the template guy doesn’t do his job. So now they have to use pirated pieces of Formica from the old countertops to use as temporary supports that I hope holds for 10 days until my contractor starts. I was slightly upset at this news and made it known. One tech understood. The other, the one who just complained how the measure tech has been making them look bad, took it personally when I referred to the company as “you”. The measure tech and install techs were different people, obviously I meant the company as a whole. Voices were raised and this created some uncomfortable tension. Over an hour later comes yet ANOTHER SURPRISE: the template guy, Joe, if I remember correctly, didn’t take proper measurements of my bathroom sink. There is a slight curve to the sink, yet it is a very standard rectangular under mount porcelain sink. It was on site and physically measured by Joe, however it was cut with a 1-1.5” overhang. Not the standard 1/8” overhang. Of course now the piece of granite had to be taken out and re-cut. We brought our sink in as soon as the instal techs left to show the production manager exactly what we wanted. He tried to explain his way out of it saying that because of our sink it had to be made that way, which of course is false. I’m glad I took pictures so I could show him in person how much of an overhang it was. He then said his guys said it was only 3/8” over, which the pictures proved otherwise. I sent them to him almost 3 hours earlier, but whatever. Fast forward to two days later, they were supposed to come between 8 and 9. They didn’t get to our unit until 9:25. The defensive tech didn’t reply good morning nor make eye contact. My fiancé was taking something off the front door and without even saying excuse me, he squeezes past and opens up the door, squeezing him between the door and wall. We dropped it. Then work is about to begin and the tech storms past us, slamming a power tool cord in the wood floor to cut something outside. My fiancé alerts him for the second time (I told him yesterday and he ignored me).. and the guy completely ignores him. My fiancé repeated himself and the tech says “that’s nice”. Mamdooh gets up and pulls the plug out and says “use the plug outside man, what’s with this attitude, we can go to anyplace else and get work done better than what we have been experiencing here”. The tech then loses it and calls him a “******* *******” while walking to plug the tool in the exterior outlet. We ignore it. He walks a few steps back towards us and says “******* *******”. Mamdooh and I both get up and Mamdooh proceeds to kick this Neanderthal out of our unit as I make sure to plant myself between the both of them just in case anything happened since I don’t know that tech from a hole in the wall. The nice tech finished the job on his own. Poor guy. The recut bathroom sink is much better than before, but it is cut uneven (wavy) on one side. I just wanted to be done with this company, so cutting my losses. The granite itself is gorgeous, but the workmanship, attention to detail, and service are below average. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere."

I am a small business with several part time(seasonal) employees. I have over 25 years experience in the remodeling trades and have made a living mainly by word of mouth. I do most of my work myself and if I use a subcontractor, I assume responsibility for their work quality, insurance coverage and references. Billing options are dtscussed on a per job basis. I prefer to work directly with homeowners because they appreciate my attention to detail. I offer a standing 15% discount on labor for wartime Vets and seniors. Many local references.

Countertops and Backsplashes questions, answered by experts

With the cost of kitchen countertops ranging from $1,900 to $4,300, you’ll want to choose a countertop material that’s durable and cost-effective. Marble countertops will come in on the high-end, whereas corian, quartz, stainless steel, and granite will run in the middle range. Butcher block and laminate are the most budget-friendly—and many DIYers choose to install butcher block on their own because it’s one of the more accessible countertops.

Tile countertops are a good option for homeowners looking for budget-friendly kitchen solutions. To get the biggest bang for your home improvement dollars, ensure the tile you install is heat- and scratch-resistant.

Porcelain is a relatively affordable, mid-range countertop. It’s less expensive than other popular materials, including quartz, slate, concrete, and marble. It’s similar in price to the average, low-end or mid-range granite or quartzite countertop (high-end options cost more). It’s more expensive than laminate, acrylic, and ceramic.

However, note that porcelain doesn’t come with very many long-term maintenance costs. If it breaks, you’ll still need to make repairs, but it won’t need regular sealing like concrete and natural stone.

Start your search for a reliable countertop contractor online, and look for companies that have high ratings from past customers. Check each of these companies on the Better Business Bureau website and rule out any that have a high number of complaints or an overall low rating. Next, contact the remaining companies and ask for a list of references and examples of past work. It’s best to choose a provider that has references that are still pleased with the work years later and one that provides professional-looking examples of how it serves its customers.

New countertops can last for anywhere between 15 and 50 years, with the exact lifespan depending on the material:

  • Quartz: 50 to 100 years

  • Marble: 50 to 100 years

  • Granite: 50 to 100 years

  • Laminate: 15 to 20 years

  • Concrete: 20 to 30 years

  • Tile: 40 to 100 years

Keep in mind some materials are more likely to stain and chip than others, which is an important factor to consider when it comes to the longevity of your countertops.
