"Bollman Brothers was incredibly responsive and Bill, the plumber, was very knowledgeable. He explained my options for replacing my water heater and even suggested a whole-home water filter for our hard water. Bill completed the tankless water heater installation quickly, all within a few days of my first call. Plus, the price was very fair. Highly recommend!"

"This was the second time we used H L Bowman for our plumbing needs and we have been impressed both times. Their plumbers are prompt, courteous, and friendly, in addition to being great at their craft. For this visit, I had a leak under a kitchen sink and did not realize that I needed to have the entire faucet replaced. The plumber recommended the closest plumbing supply store and waited while I selected the one I wanted. He efficiently did the replacement. Very happy with H L Bowman and would highly recommend them."

"Sales rep I had was very knowledgeable & personable, definitely expensive compared to other quotes I've received with other contractors & companies but I went with them due to the reputation & great reviews others had. Quality work & materials & workers that came out to install my shower was excellent, Brandon F. & Preston T. were very professional/courteous from beginning to end & did an excellent job installing, disposing & cleaning up everything. If funds aren't an issue, go with this company as they did excellent work & have lifetime warranty on their work/product. Will most likely get my other apartment unit remodeled with them again."

Affordable Plumbers questions, answered by experts

A toilet flapper will remain open when the chain that it is connected to is too short. The chain should lift the flapper just enough to allow it to open the rest of the way on its own. The chain should have just about half an inch of slack.

Yes, copper pipes freeze at temperatures of 20 degrees Fahrenheit or lower. In fact, copper pipes are more likely to freeze than other piping types since they conduct energy and lose heat quickly. They’re also more difficult to insulate, since insulation may make it difficult for heat to reach the pipes during sudden surges of cold weather.

No, a larger well pressure tank will not increase your home's water pressure by itself. Water pressure is determined by the pressure control switch on the well pump.

However, a larger tank does offer other benefits. It can store more water, which allows you to run water for longer periods before the pump needs to turn on. This reduces how often the pump cycles on and off, leading to less wear and tear on the pump and the entire well system. Consequently, a larger tank can help extend the life of your equipment and may prevent future pump issues that could affect water pressure.

If your goal is to increase water pressure, consider these alternatives:

  • Adjust the pressure settings on your tank to a higher PSI (pounds per square inch).

  • Replace your current pump with a model that has a higher flow rate, measured in gallons per minute (GPM).

  • Have a professional install a water pressure booster pump in your plumbing system.

  • If you experience pressure fluctuations, consider upgrading to a constant pressure system.

National emergency plumbers usually have greater availability to address emergencies because they have more professionals at their disposal, but local plumbers may be located closer to your home and can arrive faster. We recommend contacting one or two local plumbers first to see how quickly they can arrive. Move ahead with the service if it’s within a reasonable time frame. If not, contact a national company to see if they can get out more quickly. National companies sometimes outsource work to third parties, which can often mean faster response times.

If you notice water leaking down the side of the bowl or tank and you don’t notice any cracks in the porcelain, the odds are that it’s condensation. If you notice water around the base of the toilet, this points to a leak. Check for loose bolts. A sewage odor may also indicate a broken toilet flange.
