You don't technically need to seal your driveway after pressure washing, but doing so will help keep your driveway clean for longer. The best driveway sealer depends on the type of driveway you have. Chip seal lasts only 5 to 8 years on average. This lifespan is significantly shorter than asphalt. It is also less durable. Therefore, chip seal driveway only works if the traffic volume is extremely low. Chip seal is also less resistant to storms and hails. As impact builds up, the chips may become misplaced, creating an uneven driving surface that sometimes becomes hazardous and may damage your tires or cause your vehicle to lose balance.

Plan to seal your driveway between late spring (after the rains have slowed) and early fall, or when temperatures are 55 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. A warmer environment helps the sealant bond with the driveway. To ensure your driveway cures correctly, you should make sure no rain is in the forecast for at least 48 hours after sealing.
